Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters met with the Maltepe audience with its award-winning play “Yaftalı Tabut” (The Labeled Coffin) within the scope of the 7th International Maltepe Theater Festival.
Written by Bilgesu Erenus and directed by Yelda Baskın, “Yaftalı Tabut” took the stage on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 8:00 PM at the Maltepe Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan Cultural Center.

The audience witnessed the story of Fatma Nudiye Yalçı, filled with literature, art, and struggle, which began in Istanbul in 1904 and ended in Sofia in 1969.
The play, which was followed with great curiosity and excitement until the end, received a long standing ovation.
IBB City Theaters will continue to bring its classical and contemporary plays to audiences in many districts of Istanbul as well as in different cities.

THE LABELED COFFIN
The story of Fatma Nudiye Yalçı, a name we can find in the footnotes of history, Turkey’s first female playwright, theorist, activist, and a pioneer in every field of social and political life. Dr. Hikmet Kıvılcımlı and Nazım Hikmet also joined her struggle, which began in the 1920s.
The cast features Bensu Orhunöz, Ceren Hacımuratoğlu, Derya Keykubat, Lale Kabul, Mana Alkoy, Selin Türkmen, and Şenay Bağ.
