At the press conference held for the promotion of “Tutankhamun, the Child King’s Treasures Exhibition” at UNIQ Expo Istanbul, the famous historian and author Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, organizer of the exhibition Level A.Ş. Chairman of the Board of Directors Tufan Zaman and Mohamed Atef Abdelshafy who is one of the accredited curators of the exhibition in Egypt, attended and gave information. Giving valuable information about Ancient Egypt, one of the most important civilizations in history, and Tutankhamun’s place and importance in this magnificent civilization, as a guest speaker at the press conference, Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı said:

“Ancient Egypt, the magnificent civilization created by the wealth of the Nile delta”

“Civilization does not start with the Greeks, it starts with Mesopotamia, but I think the Nile and the richness of the Nile delta in terms of continuity and consistency created such a magnificent civilization like Egypt, and said the following about Tutankhamun, who is known as the Child King:

“Tutankhamun came to the throne at a tumultuous time in Egyptian history. Tutankmamun’s father Akhenaten (or also known as Amenhotep IV) was a pharaoh of the new 18th dynasty of Egypt. In the 6th year of his reign, he decided to leave Thebes, which had been the capital of Egypt for centuries, and establish a new capital in the untouched lands known today as Tel el Amarna. Akhenaten removed the names of other gods from the temples in order to destroy belief in other gods and to establish the Aton religion. Aton is a sole god related to the Sun, who is thought to have passed from Babylonia to Egypt. It can be considered the beginning of the monotheistic Hebrew religions. One of his most important known wives was the Mitanni princess Nefertiti. After Akhenaten was deposed, one of his sons, Tutankhamun, took the throne at the age of 9. He also died at an early age. During his reign, Egypt reverted to its ancient polytheistic religion. The priests of Amon were also rehabilitated. But it is a fact that Tutankhamun is the pharaoh we know best because of his tomb being found in the 20th century and reflecting the Egyptian civilization.”

Stating that nothing belonging to the pharaohs could be found in the tombs of the three great pyramids, namely Keops, Khafre and Mikerinos, which are the royal tombs in Egypt, Prof. Ortaylı noted that Tutankhamun’s underground tomb was perfectly preserved and was also important in that it was the only pharaoh whose treasures survived to the present day without his tomb being robbed, when it was discovered by British Archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922.

“We are happy to bring together the world-record-breaking exhibition with Istanbulites”

Tufan Zaman, Chairman of the Board of Level A.Ş and the organizer of the “Tutankhamun, the Child King’s Treasures Exhibition”, stated that he is very happy to bring this exhibition, which broke visitor records in the most important metropolises of the world, to Istanbul, the cultural capital of Europe, with the people of Istanbul. gave:

What works are in the exhibition?

Pharaoh Tutankhamun, who ruled from 1332 BC to 1323 BC, was born during the reign of his father, Pharaoh Akhenaten, in the late Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt. Tutankhamun was 9 years old when he took the throne. The body of the Golden Pharaoh, who died at the age of 19, was mummified within 70 days and taken to the cemetery number 69 in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor. British archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter discovered the magnificent treasure belonging to Tutankhamun, which he discovered in the Valley of the Kings in the south of Egypt in 1922, and the artifacts found became the symbol of Ancient Egypt. Little Pharaoh’s treasures brought to light many aspects of the history of ancient Egyptian civilization. The exhibition held for Tutankhamun, who is also known as the ‘Golden King’ because all the items found in his tomb were made of solid gold, include exact replicas of 409 works specially selected from the treasury.

The world-famous golden death mask decorated with precious stones, the coffin with the depictions of the Egyptian goddesses Isis, Nephthys, Neith and Selket, the mummy in the coffin, the bed made of gilded wood, the chariot, the golden throne depicting Tutankhamun’s wife Queen Ankhesenamun and his love. There are interesting artifacts such as sculptures depicting the boy king hunting a hippopotamus, various furniture, weapons such as a horse carriage, bow and arrow, and the weapon called “dagger from outer space” because it was made of iron from a meteorite that fell in Anatolia. One of the genetic defects, which is stated to play a role in Tutankhamun’s death at a young age, was causing him to limp on one of his feet. For this reason, examples of his walking sticks and replicas of hundreds of other pieces, which are astonishing when found in his grave, are included in this exciting exhibition.
