The CHP Party Chairman, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, visited the Disaster Coordination Centers and shelters in Hatay with the Metropolitan Municipalities of Ankara, İzmir, and Istanbul. The Mayor of İBB, Ekrem İmamoğlu, and other officials informed Kılıçdaroğlu and his delegation about their work and services.
Before the MYK meeting, Kılıçdaroğlu and his team visited the Disaster Coordination Centers and shelters located in Antakya, which are operated by the Metropolitan Municipalities of Ankara and İzmir, and later in Istanbul. İmamoğlu wished the workers success and thanked them for their efforts. After the meeting, Kılıçdaroğlu visited the İBB Disaster Coordination Center and was informed by İmamoğlu, the İBB Deputy General Secretary Gürkan Alpay, Murat Yazıcı, and the General Manager of KİPTAŞ A.S., Ali Kurt, about the operations and services for earthquake victims. İBB Advisor Yiğit Oğuz Duman also gave a short presentation to Kılıçdaroğlu, İmamoğlu, and the delegation about İBB’s contributions to the regions affected by the earthquake, especially Hatay, which was paired by AFAD.
İBB Search and Rescue Teams rescued 525 people from the rubble
According to the presentation by Duman, the following contributions were made by İBB:
İBB continues to support the search and rescue and humanitarian aid activities coordinated by AFAD. İBB has 2,326 personnel, 997 vehicles, and equipment in the region. The 964-member equipped search and rescue, emergency and funeral services team, equipped with 78 vehicles and machinery, was sent to the disaster site. İBB teams rescued 525 people from the rubble and delivered them to health teams. İBB’s aid campaign received donations of over 5 million needs items. The collected aid was dispatched to the region with 272 trucks.
INFRASTRUCTURE, VEHICLE, MACHINE, EQUIPMENT, AND MATERIAL SUPPORT
- The İBB provided a fleet of vehicles and equipment with different capacities and capabilities.
- In Hatay, a 1,500 square meter housing area, a 1,500 square meter logistics warehouse area, and a 300 square meter coordination center have been established. The setup of the camp is ongoing.
- A 6000-person capacity food truck and a 15,000-bread-per-day capacity mobile oven are serving in Antakya.
- 61 tank trucks were dispatched to the Hamidiye water region. To the region, 2.8 million 0.5 liter, 161 thousand 1.5 liter, and 31 thousand 5 liter water were sent.
- 37 trucks were sent to the region, with a total of 3 million 600 thousand 50 gr Mediterranean-style nutrient bread, 200 thousand golden pastries, and 61 thousand baby biscuits.
- 140 cabin mobile toilets, 42 mobile showers, and 5 mobile WCs, a total of 26 containers, were established and put into operation.
- 14 mobile charging stations and 7 self-powered lighting poles were established.
- 3 mobile and 12 fixed satellite, the İBB WiFi is broadcasting at a total of 15 points.
- An 11-person information and telecommunications team is continuing its work in Hatay.
- 107 security personnel and 15 service vehicles were dispatched to the region.
- A 52-person city cleaning team and 13 ISTAÇ cleaning vehicles have started service in the region.
- 7 veterinarians have been deployed in the region.
- 35 engineers and technicians have been deployed to Kahramanmaraş for damage assessment.
- 72 Hızır Emergency and Health Department personnel are serving as an emergency health team in the field.
- İSKİ has deployed a 7-person technical team to the region to inspect the water and sewage infrastructure, conduct damage assessment and determine repair needs.
- The generators for the tents set up for earthquake victims at Hatay Samandağ Suphi Güzey Primary School have been installed. Connections were made and lighting and electrical outlets were installed in the tents.
“ISTANBUL, SINGLE HEART FOR THE REGION”
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) is coordinating the delivery of aid to the region with the help of 14 CHP-led district municipalities. So far, 564 trucks, containing items such as blankets, winter clothing, heaters, generators, and hygiene materials, have been dispatched. 116 vehicles and machinery have been sent to the region, and 506 search and rescue personnel and technical staff have been deployed. 6 garbage trucks have been dispatched from the districts to the region. A total of 10 kitchens have been opened in different locations in Hatay. The region continues to need tents, heaters, canned food products, thermal underwear, hygiene materials, adult diapers, baby care items, and food supplies.
