Born as the son of the famous theater actor and veteran Tevfik Gelenbe and actress Sevim Gelenbe, Arkın Gelenbe, who grew up in the Tevfik Gelenbe Theater, grew up in the theater and grew up as an actor like his parents, talked about his art life from past to present and his thoughts on today’s theater, film and TV series industry to Eylül Aşkın, the host of Turkey News Portal.
“I was born backstage, but my father never wanted me to do this job.”
Stating that he has worked at every level of the theater, Arkın Gelenbe said that he started working in his own theater at the age of seven by distributing cologne and napkins in the toilets and continued his words as follows: “Then I made Alaska frigo ice cream in the antrak. Then I went up to the light room, I showed seats, I sold tickets at the box office, I made decorations, I made curtains, then I went on stage.”

Against Conservatory Education!
Arkın Gelenbe said that it is very rare for an actor who graduated from a conservatory to find himself, “Conservatory graduates used to come to my theater. You had to see them come, that’s not how Yıldız teacher (Kenter) worked. Don’t tell me, I say, ‘Get on stage.’ She doesn’t know how to turn from right to left. She doesn’t know her technique, I mean, for example, she doesn’t know which hand to use on stage to make a phone call, depending on her posture on the stage.” He emphasized the inadequacy of conservatory education in professional life.
“One day you won’t see those people you see everywhere anywhere.”
Drawing attention to the monopolization in the television sector, Arkın Gelenbe said, “Yes, we are in an unlucky period as a country, as a profession. But how you get through this period is the important thing.”

“I would like to work with Aras Bulut Iynemli.”
Veteran actor Arkın Gelenbe also mentioned Aras Bulut İynemli, whose name was also mentioned by director Leo Yılmaz in our previous interviews. “Aras is a very good actor. He is very young, yet he is a very good actor. I like him,” he said.
“I love Şener Şen so much that if we have a scene together, I have no say in it. Let me be the seagull in the background, no problem.”
Arkın Gelenbe, who has worked with many famous names so far, said that he had never come across Şener Şen and that he would be very happy to be in the same frame with him, even if only for a short time, and addressed the master actor with these words.
