March 18 Martyrs’ Day and the 108th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory were commemorated with ceremonies and programs held in Aliağa, as in the rest of the country.
The 108th anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory and the 18 March Çanakkale Martyrs’ Day activities started with the official ceremony held in Cumhuriyet Square. To the ceremony in the Republic Square; Aliağa District Governor Zekeriya Güney, Garrison Commander Colonel Faruk Altun, Aliağa Municipality Deputy Mayor Kürşat Bahadır Turan, Aliağa Chief Public Prosecutor Mehmet İmir, Bülent Kusanç on behalf of the Aliağa Representative of the Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyr Widows and Orphans Association, relatives of martyrs, veterans, city council members, department heads, military officials, representatives of political parties, non-governmental organizations, teachers, students and citizens.
The ceremony, which started with the laying of a wreath at the Atatürk Monument on behalf of Aliağa District Governorate, Garrison Command, the Mayor’s Office and the Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyr’s Widows and Orphans Association, ended with the singing of the National Anthem and a visit to the martyrdom in Aliağa cemetery.
Martyrs’ commemoration program continued with activities organized in Aliağa Tüpraş Public Education Center. In the program prepared by Aliağa Petrochemical Secondary School teachers and students, the speeches on the meaning and importance of the day were made by Ayşe Gülten Çakmak, one of the Petrochemistry Secondary School teachers, and Ufuk Zafer on behalf of the Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyr Widows and Orphans Association.
THE SHOWS GAVE EMOTIONAL MOMENTS
After the speeches in which the 18 March Çanakkale Epic was told, especially Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms were gratefully commemorated, and the integrity of the homeland and independence were expressed, the “Çanakkale Oratorio” staged by the students and the “Chorus” gave the audience emotional moments. The “Çanakkale Impassable Theater” staged in the last episode received great applause from the participants. The program came to an end with souvenir photos and a treat.

Aliağa Mayor Serkan Acar published a message on his social media accounts on the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the 18 March Çanakkale Victory. President Serkan Acar gave the following statements in his message: “As our national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy said; Who will dig the makber that will not be too narrow for you? If I said, ‘Let’s bury you in history’, you wouldn’t fit. We commemorate our martyrs and heroic veterans with mercy and gratitude, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms, the architects of this great epic and the spirit of Çanakkale.
