Artist and academic Cansu Özdenak was the guest on this episode of ‘Eylül Aşkın İle’ (With Eylül Aşkın), presented by Eylül Aşkın. The episode was filmed at Nostalgia Antique, located on Adile Naşit Street in Cihangir.
“I progress by bringing fields together and synthesizing them.”
Cansu Özdenak, who built her career in television for many years before her academic life, stated that her academic life and artistic work feed each other.
“I always love being a student.”
Stating that she also benefits from other fields such as sociology, psychology, philosophy, and cinema, in addition to communication, Cansu Özdenak said, “Cinema is a field where we are a drop in the ocean.”

“I consider myself experimental.”
Also speaking about her English song “Phosphorescence,” which she brought to life with the help of artificial intelligence, Cansu Özdenak said, “We called it AI-Disco. It became a project inspired by the Studio 54 years, one that takes us back to the eighties.”
“Every emotion has its own layers.”
Describing her songwriting process, Cansu Özdenak explained, “The raw material is emotions. When they are intense and complex, and sometimes undergo changes like a roller coaster, they inevitably flow out of you.” She also emphasized her musical diversity, adding, “It has an electronic foundation, but I also love to wander among the genres I like, keeping things flexible and without limiting myself too much.”

“We are living in an age of uncertainty.”
Cansu Özdenak, who actively shares her work in both music and cinema with her students and mentioned that she sometimes even invites them to sets and studios, said, “I believe practice is important in our profession.” She continued, “We are living in a difficult time. It would make me so happy if I can touch the dreams of even one of them, and if I can be an inspiration that they can achieve their dreams if they are determined!”
Takes Inspiration from Life and Death!
To Eylül Aşkın’s question, “What inspires you most when writing songs?” Cansu Özdenak replied, “Life, death, and me. Let’s call it a flirtation among the three of us; that’s where I get the most inspiration.”
New Single on the Way!
Regarding her new song—for which she completed studio work in 2023, will soon begin filming a music video, combines rock and dark wave styles, and will be released in the fall, though she doesn’t want to reveal the title yet to not spoil the surprise—she said: “We made the intro and outro of the song with the music video in mind. I will be very satisfied if I can make the video feel like a short film. Therefore, if it turns out the way I envision, it will be a beautiful work, different from the others.”
