30 March International Zero Waste Day was celebrated with events held in Bergama.
Drawing attention to the importance of protecting the environment, Mayor Hakan Koştu said, “As Bergama Municipality, in order to leave a more livable environment for future generations, we are meticulously carrying out the “Zero Waste” works initiated by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, the wife of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in our ancient city of UNESCO World Heritage Bergama. We continue,” he said.
The events organized in Bergama for the 30 March International Zero Waste Day, which was started by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s wife Emine Erdoğan in 2017 and announced by the UN with the support of 105 countries, started with a cortege march. With the main idea of “There is No Second World”, an effort was made to raise awareness for “Zero Waste” in the cortege march organized to draw attention to a “Clean Environment”. Students, athletes, teachers, municipal employees and citizens participated in the cortege march that started from Mehmet Akif Ersoy Park (Bayraklı Park). Everyone who walked to the Cultural Center with placards in their hands drew attention to what needs to be done for a ‘A More Liveable World’, that trees should be protected, Everything should not be thrown away, that humanity will perish with water, and that packaging waste is not garbage.
RECYCLING FASHION AND RECYCLING EXHIBITION WATCHED WITH ATTENTION
After the Cortege Walk, the Recycling Fashion Show was held at the Bergama Cultural Center. In the fashion show, students from 100. Yıl Primary and Secondary School, Ali Rıza Eroğlu Primary School, Aşağıbey Primary and Secondary School, Ayaskent İrfan Kırdar Secondary School, Bergama Yusuf Kemalettin Perin MTAL and Zübeyde Hanım Secondary School exhibited the dresses obtained from recycling. Bergama Mayor Hakan Koştu and the protocol members watched the fashion show with interest and then opened the Recycling Exhibition. Bergama Municipality employees, 100. Yıl Primary and Secondary School, Aşağıbey Primary and Secondary School, Ayaskent İrfan Kırdar Secondary School, Yusuf Kemalettin Perin MTAL. and Zübeyde Hanım Secondary School students made from recycled materials were included in the exhibition.
“BERGAMA TAKES CONFIDENT STEPS TO ZERO WASTE CONSCIOUSNESS”
Mayor Hakan Koştu, who gave information about the recycling and zero waste works of Bergama Municipality on the occasion of the Zero Waste Day, pointed out that they have signed many projects in the Ancient City of Bergama, and that zero waste awareness in the district is progressing day by day thanks to these projects. President Koştu said, “Thanks to our citizens, educators, students, and every sensitive member of our society, the wastes we collect are decomposed and reused. By recycling wastes such as glass, paper, metal and plastic, we protect the environment and contribute to the economy. We organize meetings, competitions and events for our students in schools in cooperation with our District Directorate of National Education. Thanks to these activities, we have made significant strides in zero waste, and we continue to do so. I would like to thank each of my fellow citizens who participated in our work for their support.”
