At the wreath-laying ceremony for the National Sovereignty and Children’s Day held by Konak Municipality at Gültepe Atatürk Square, Mayor Batur said, “I believe that spring will come differently on the evening of May 14th. Flowers will bloom differently, children will laugh differently, women’s faces will be filled with joy, and our citizens will be happy. I wholeheartedly believe that the Republic of Turkey will be managed with the institutions entrusted to us by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. I promise you that spring will come on May 14th.”
Residents of Konak celebrated the excitement of April 23rd with the wreath-laying ceremony and Zeybek folk dance performance held at the Atatürk Monument in Gültepe Square, as part of Konak Municipality’s National Sovereignty and Children’s Day events. The ceremony, which began with a procession, was attended by Konak Mayor Abdül Batur, CHP Konak District Chairman Akın Küçükoğulları, Deva Party Konak District Chairman Ali Rıza Uygur, Saadet Party Konak District Chairman Rıfat Yıldırım, CHP Konak District women’s and youth branches, representatives from the Millet Alliance district organizations, Konak Municipal Council members, civil society organizations, democratic mass organizations, chamber and foundation representatives, village chiefs, and many citizens. The children’s joy, waving Turkish flags with excitement to the tunes of the Rumeli marching band, was the highlight of the ceremony. After a moment of silence and the national anthem, Mayor Batur and CHP Konak District Chairman Akın Küçükoğulları laid wreaths at the monument. The Zeybek folk dance performance by the Özgün Folk Dance Group’s little ones received a huge round of applause.
In his speech at the ceremony, Konak Mayor Abdül Batur emphasized the importance of the values of the republic entrusted by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Celebrating the National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, Mayor Batur promised that “spring will come” on May 14th, and they will celebrate another festival.
“Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is such a genius that he establishes the Grand National Assembly three years before the establishment of the republic. He initiates a joint effort with members coming from every corner of Anatolia, with a spirit of solidarity, to make decisions for the future. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, our esteemed leader, and his comrades worked to establish the republic and its institutions for the betterment of the people. Our institutions, which uphold the values of the republic, are of utmost importance. I believe that on the evening of May 14, a new spring will dawn. Flowers will bloom differently, children will laugh differently, women will smile, and our citizens will smile. I wholeheartedly believe that the Turkish Republic will continue to be governed by the institutions entrusted to us by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, our great leader. I remember with respect and gratitude Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades who entrusted our republic to us. I promise you that after May 14, no child will go to bed hungry.
Akın Küçükoğullarından, the district chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Konak, emphasized that the joy of national sovereignty is shared with all the children of the world thanks to the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. Küçükoğullarından stated that “we are aware that we need to work harder for our dear children to grow up in the most equipped way possible as the future of our country, our nation, the world, and humanity depends on the contribution to peace of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, which is of great importance. My dear children, dear young people, the bright faces of our bright future, I congratulate the children of the world on this day through you and I kiss your eyes. I wish all children a world full of peace, love, and happiness,” and ended his speech with the words “no child will go to bed hungry after May 14.”
