AURA Istanbul and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University will host the internationally renowned artist Bruce Ramus, known for his innovative works in light and media design, for a conference titled “Media Architecture” on December 13 at the Sedad Hakkı Eldem Auditorium.

The Istanbul Architecture and Urban Studies Academy – AURA Istanbul has been providing new perspectives in architecture, design, and urbanism through its educational programs and events since 2017.

On Friday, December 13, the event will take place at the Sedad Hakkı Eldem Auditorium under the auspices of the Faculty of Architecture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Bruce Ramus, celebrated for his groundbreaking work in light and media design, will take the stage with his conference, “Media Architecture.”

Throughout his career, Bruce Ramus has directed the lighting design for countless international live shows of renowned artists and bands, including U2, R.E.M., David Bowie, Bryan Adams, David Byrne, Guy Sebastian, and James Brown. Additionally, he has designed the lighting for artists’ performances at the Academy Awards, Grammys, MTV Awards, ARIAs, and the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

In 2006, Bruce Ramus relocated to Melbourne, where he observed the growing presence of large-scale digital screen technology in cities. This inspired him to create a platform where he could integrate his experiences to produce cohesive works and support inclusive urban communities. To contribute to this artistic and social vision, he founded Ramus Illumination.

Today, he merges his long-term vision with large-scale theatrical experiences, presenting a new form of “Media Architecture” that reflects the environment while encouraging public participation through an integrated canvas. RAMUS collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of experts in lighting design, architecture, engineering, industrial design, construction, software development, fine arts, animation, and music. Together, they create light installations that combine light, sculpture, digital media, performance, music, and interactive technology, drawing communities into the experience.

This conference, blending architecture, art, and technology, promises to be a unique source of inspiration for architects, designers, and artists. Participation is free and open to everyone.

The event will be conducted in English, with Turkish simultaneous translation available.
