HERITAGE Exhibition to Meet Art Lovers in Istanbul on September 26–27, 2026

Art does not merely tell the story of an era; it is one of the most powerful forms of cultural heritage, carrying the memory of the past into the present and the artistic production of today into the future.

Duygu Kızılkaya Art Gallery will bring together masters of art history, prominent representatives of contemporary art, and a new generation of artists who aspire to have a voice in the art world of the future under one roof with its exhibition HERITAGE – The Future Takes Shape in the Footsteps of the Past, which will take place on September 26–27, 2026, at the Kaftan Hall of Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul.

HERITAGE Sergisi İstanbul’da Sanatın Geçmişi ile Geleceğini Buluşturuyor (6)

Curated by Duygu Kızılkaya, HERITAGE aims to make visible the continuity of art across time by bringing different generations together. The exhibition approaches the past not merely as an era to be remembered, but as a living heritage that nourishes the art of today and shapes the aesthetic understanding of the future.

The historical memory of the exhibition is formed by Abidin Dino, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Avni Arbaş, Burhan Doğançay, Balkan Naci İslimyeli, and Tomur Atagök, who left lasting marks on Turkish art. Through works produced across different generations and with different artistic approaches, these masters represent the powerful starting point of HERITAGE’s narrative extending from the past to the present.

Following this powerful heritage, the exhibition brings together important representatives of Turkish contemporary art from different generations. The selection includes Utku Varlık, Yalçın Gökçebağ, Hayati Misman, Zahit Büyükişleyen, Nilay Büyükişleyen, Yusuf Taktak, Nazım Balaban, Çetin Bilgin, Maria Kılıçlıoğlu, Devabil Kara, Hüseyin Yıldırım, Mustafa Tuğrul, Emrah Yücel, Özlem Üner, Hadiye Kalkavan, Malik Bulut, Rahşan Düren, Günsu Saraçoğlu, Banu Sağnak, Burcu Filiz, Merih Yıldız, and Kadir Akyol. These diverse approaches, ranging from painting to sculpture and from traditional materials to contemporary production techniques, strengthen the artistic dialogue HERITAGE establishes between generations.

HERITAGE does not merely bring together the masters of art history and the renowned names of today; it also creates space for artists who continue to develop their own unique languages in the art world of the future.

In this section, Sema Bayraktar, Murat Barlak, Onur Bekiroğlu, Mümin Candaş, Seray Çakar, Aslıhan Çiftgül, Selma Durukanoğlu, Muhammed Ekinek, Didem Gürpınar, Galya Iskrenova Gülay, Candan Kadakal, Yeşim Kaymak, Suzan Murat, Nazmiye Mutafoğlu, Semra Polat, Tarana Sümer, Münevver Tolunay, Aminenur Toprak, Ayşe Topuzlu, Leyla Herischian Vusugi, Selma Nur Yavuz, and Ebru Yıldırım meet the audience with their works.

The presence of artists from different generations side by side in the same space transforms HERITAGE from merely a group exhibition into a multilayered artistic narrative established between the past, present, and future.

At the intellectual center of HERITAGE lies one of the most important debates of our time:

Can technology produce art, or is it the human being who makes art truly valuable?

As artificial intelligence and digital production methods continue to transform the art world, HERITAGE considers human imagination, intuition, memory, life experience, and labor as the indispensable essence of art.

Because what makes a work valuable is not merely the image that emerges. The lived experience, thought, emotion, memory, and human-specific creative process behind the work constitute the true heritage of art.

Based on this idea, the exhibition does not merely establish a historical connection between the past and the future; it also proposes a powerful dialogue that questions the place of human creativity in the face of technology.

As part of the exhibition, visitors will also encounter a special installation that invites them to reflect. Interpreting the relationship between humans and technology from an artistic perspective, the work will form the final section of HERITAGE’s intellectual path connecting the past, present, and future.

HERITAGE approaches art history not merely as a heritage that must be preserved, but as a living cultural memory that each generation reinterprets and carries into the future.

Taking place in the historical atmosphere of Çırağan Palace, the exhibition invites visitors not only to view works by artists from different generations, but also to reconsider where art comes from, where it stands today, and what place human creativity will occupy in the future.

Art history is still being written.
