In this shoot that we conducted at Locca Music Studio in East Ataşehir, we talked with one of the studio partners, musician Zeynel Günbek, who has garnered appreciation in recent years with his unique music style and works, about his music philosophy, songs, the music industry, and future projects.

Saying, “I was born and raised in a solid Istanbul suburb,” Zeynel explained that he spent his childhood in Gaziosmanpaşa. He said, “The things I saw and witnessed at a young age nourished me.” Due to his successful academic life, Zeynel continued his primary education at Beyazıt Primary School at the guidance of his teachers and graduated from the Philosophy department of Istanbul University.

The Foundations of His Music Emerged During High School

During his high school years, Zeynel was introduced to rock music and rock culture. He later combined rock music with the folk music and the aşık (troubadour) culture that was a family tradition, thus creating his unique music style. Zeynel Günbek explained, “I tried to understand everything by saying, ‘One day will come, and I will make music.’” He added, “Even during my years as a philosopher, this was the source. Because to understand music, I sought to understand sound, and to understand sound, I desired a deeper exploration.” In addition to reinterpreting the songs of our troubadours, the musician also writes his own songs. He stated that while writing his songs, he is greatly inspired musically by the philosophy books he reads, the travels he undertakes, and the new people he meets.

Release Plan Ready by Year-End!

While preparing his first studio album composed entirely of his own compositions, Zeyn’el is also working on duet songs with various musicians. Initially considering compiling and releasing these songs as an album, Zeynel Günbek later decided to release them as singles. He announced that he would be sharing two songs with his fans, one in the summer and another in the fall.

From Music Production Company to Music Studio Owner!

Having previously co-founded Nana Yapım with his friends and conducting his projects and concerts under this production company, Zeynel has now taken over the management of Locca Music Studio in East Ataşehir with two of his friends who are also sound engineers. The studio offers a very comfortable and friendly environment, providing all services in the rehearsal and recording fields.
