The Academic Program started at Istanbul University Doctoral Hall with the theme ‘Freedom of Expression.’ The academic program of the 13th International Crime and Punishment Film Festival will take place between November 17th and November 23rd.
On Friday, November 17, 2022, at 09:00 in the Istanbul University Doctoral Hall, the academic program began with speeches by Prof. Dr. Adem Sözüer, the President of the International Crime and Punishment Film Festival, Prof. Dr. Fethi Gedikli, the Dean of the Istanbul University Faculty of Law, and Prof. Dr. Osman Bülent Zülfikar, the Rector of Istanbul University.
Opening Conference and First Day Program
Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Yasemin Işıktaç, after the opening conference titled “Is Freedom of Expression a Fundamental Right?” by Prof. Dr. İoanna Kuçuradi, topics such as ‘The Use of the Media’s Right to Inform in Investigation and Prosecution Processes,’ ‘Actions Against the Quran in the Context of the Limits of Freedom of Expression,’ and ‘Violence and Hate Speech’ were discussed. On the first day of the academic program, presentations were also made on topics such as ‘Algorithms on Social Networks in the Context of Freedom of Expression,’ ‘Censorship in Palestine,’ ‘Criminal Liability of Content Providers,’ and ‘Measures of Deletion, Access Restriction, and Bandwidth Narrowing.’
Presentations were given on topics such as ‘Legitimate Reasons for Compliance with the Incitement to Hatred and Enmity Crime,’ ‘Open and Imminent Danger Test in Turkish Law,’ and ‘Praising Crime and the Criminal in Light of Historical Examples.’
