Governor Ozan Balcı, the Deputy Mayor of Van and Metropolitan Municipality, visited the area where bottom sludge cleaning was carried out as part of the activities for “World Environment Day” on June 5th.
The ongoing efforts of the Van Metropolitan Municipality to protect Lake Van continue. In this context, the first phase of bottom sludge and mud work, which started in the lake last year, has been completed, while works for the second and third phases are being carried out intensively. The works continue with 80 vehicles along the coastline, and Governor Ozan Balcı visited the area where the works were conducted on World Environment Day, June 5th. Governor Ozan Balcı, who conducted inspections in the area, received information from Deputy Secretary General Ali Özvan and the Head of Environmental Protection and Control Department, Mucip Güven, and the employees.
Governor Ozan Balcı stated that Lake Van is one of the most important natural treasures of the city and the world. He said, “Lake Van is both an economic and cultural value. Therefore, the preservation of Lake Van is of vital importance. In this regard, we are making every effort possible. We must leave our beautiful lake as clean as we inherited it from our ancestors to future generations. As a governor who is aware of environmental consciousness and the importance of protecting the environment, I emphasize that the cleanliness of Lake Van is of vital importance. For this reason, we are making every effort possible. With the potential of our state, we have been carrying out bottom cleaning for one and a half years with 80 vehicles here. So far, we have cleaned 1 million cubic meters of bottom sludge. Our goal is to remove and clean 2.7 million cubic meters of bottom sludge by the end of this year. After the cleaning, we can see a noticeable progress on the coast. Our beach has now become clean and beautiful. Lake Van is very important to us, and we want to leave it to future generations in a pristine state. Our only request from our people is to keep Lake Van clean and make efforts to maintain its cleanliness.”
