About Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park: [Please provide additional information if available]
Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park was established in Darıca in 1993 as Turkey’s first private zoo. It is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and also functions as the “Wildlife Conservation and Rescue Center” for the Marmara Region. With a mission to protect wildlife, the park implements conservation and breeding programs under the coordination of EAZA.
Ex-situ conservation programs aim to protect and breed endangered species outside their natural habitats when their species’ continuity is at risk. To this end, Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park has taken measures to protect a total of 42 endangered species, including 26 critically endangered species and 6 Anatolian species.
In-situ conservation programs, on the other hand, involve conservation efforts carried out in natural habitats to protect endangered species from various threats they encounter in the wild. Faruk Yalçın Zoo and Botanical Park supports a total of 7 conservation projects for endangered species such as the Baringo Giraffe, Indian Rhinoceros, African Penguin, Red Panda, Hornbills, and Brown Bears, contributing to the preservation of species diversity in nature.
