During the promotional event of the publication organized by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, Mehmet Develioğlu, Vice Chairman of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, stated: “I have not come across such a study before. We came across a publication in America, but we have not encountered such an extensive study beyond that. We collaborated with Istanbul Commerce University’s University-Business Relations Application and Research Center. I would like to express my sincere thanks to my esteemed professors, the council and committee members who supported the report, and industry representatives. I would especially like to thank our valuable friend Ercan Karakurt, who has made significant contributions to this project. He has truly delivered an excellent work in this project.”
Dr. Muhittin Adıgüzel, Faculty Member of Istanbul Commerce University and Director of University-Business Relations Application and Research Center, who contributed to the preparation of the book, stated: “The mastermind behind this project is Ercan Karakurt. Committee members also provided great assistance. This study is both the first in Turkey and the world. There is no other study like this in the sector.”
ITO Transportation and Logistics Services Vocational Committee Member, Dr. Kayıhan Özdemir TURAN, stated: “This sector has been operating for a long time. The improvement, enhancement, prevention of unfair competition, identification of problems, and proposal of solutions within its economic structure and framework have always been discussed. Ercan KARAKURT took the lead in documenting these discussions, leading them, and turning them into an acceptable scientific report by bringing them together with the academic world. In every sector, we need individuals like Ercan KARAKURT, people with visionary ideas. As committee members, if we have contributed even a little to this work under his leadership in the new era, we consider ourselves happy.”
Ercan KARAKURT, Member of PERPA Cooperative and PERPA Trade Center B Block Board of Directors, and Member of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Transportation and Logistics Services Vocational Committee No. 24, said: “When I first joined the ITO Logistics Committee in 2018, I had a dream. It was to conduct research on our industry. We realized this dream with the council and committee members of my 20th term committee, as well as our academic staff. After two years of work, a great work has emerged.”
At the end of the presentation, the authors of the book, Dr. Muhittin Adıgüzel and Assoc. Dr. Yunus Özcan, were presented with gifts.
From the preface of the book:
“Considering that every person moves their home at least a few times in their lifetime, the importance of the household goods transportation sector becomes evident for both consumers and the national economy. On the other hand, it is clear that the transportation of our homes and personal belongings requires the existence of minimum quality standards in the sector.
Commonly known as the Household Goods Transportation Industry, it found its legal place under the name of ‘moving goods’ between Articles 894 and 905 in the Turkish Commercial Code numbered 6102, which was first issued in 2012. Prior to this date, it was evaluated that there was no regulation regarding a sector with an annual 4 million home moves and a sector size of 22 billion TL. This legal regulation is an important development. However, sector stakeholders frequently raise issues such as unfair competition, informal economy, quality, and professional competence standards, as well as legal, administrative, and implementation deficiencies in many areas, and demand efforts to identify and prevent these problems.
In this context, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, which conducts sector researches to identify the current situation and problems in the sectors its members operate in, and to develop solution proposals with scientific, objective, and value-adding approaches to our country’s development process, has commissioned this first-of-its-kind study in the Household Goods Transportation Industry to Istanbul Commerce University University-Business Relations Application and Research Center.”
