Sait Faik and Darüşşafaka
Sait Faik, who participated in various literary matinees in the last days of his life, attends a literature matinee held at Darüşşafaka High School in 1954. Sait Faik, who visits the school after the matinee, takes care of and appreciates the children. When he returns home, he offers to his mother to donate his property to Darüşşafaka, which provides good opportunities for children whose father is dead.
Sait Faik’s mother, Makbule Hanım, donated most of her assets, copyrights of the author’s works and the mansion in Burgazada to the Darüşşafaka Society in her will, which she prepared on November 8, 1954, after the author’s death.
Darüşşafaka meticulously took care of this will, which was passed on to it in 1964, and assumed all the responsibilities of the museum house, which was opened to the public on 22 August 1959 under the name of Sait Faik Abasıyanık Museum, starting from 1964.
