SOYLU: “The Westerners want to create a uniform type of person, with similar clothes, attire, values, and identities, whom they can govern as they please.”
“This election was the seal of Westerners leaving Turkey. It’s as clear as day… It was the seal of completely breaking that tutelage.”
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu met with young people at Nakkaştepe People’s Garden in Üsküdar. Üsküdar Mayor Hilmi Türkmen also accompanied Süleyman Soylu in the meeting with the youth. Speaking after the event, which started with music, Üsküdar Mayor Hilmi Türkmen celebrated the youth on the occasion of May 19th, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. Türkmen emphasized that Üsküdar Municipality is always by the side of the youth with its services and support and said, “We are delighted to come together with our esteemed Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu and our youth in this beautiful meeting at Nakkaştepe People’s Garden, one of the most beautiful spots of the Istanbul Strait.”
Soylu: “Erdoğan Pushed the West Away from Turkey”
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu expressed his happiness to meet with young people on the occasion of May 19th, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day and stated, “Thanks to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Western tutelage has been abolished in Turkey.” He said, “Tayyip Erdoğan did this. For 21 years, he slowly, gradually raised Western hands and eventually pushed them away from Turkey. Do you know what this election was? This election was the seal of Westerners leaving Turkey. It’s as clear as day… It was the seal of completely breaking that tutelage. Young people 20 years from now will say this. Yes, the War of Independence that saved our country from the enemy’s grasp began in 1919. Our ancestors saved it under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. But they will also say that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan saved our country from Western tutelage. It’s as clear as day. I’m confident that it will be said just like my name is Süleyman Soylu, 20 years from now. Because we are experiencing this today.”
Soylu: “Turkey Competes with Developed Countries”
Emphasizing that Turkey has made a great leap forward in recent years, Süleyman Soylu said, “These are not easy tasks.” He said, “With the extraction of natural gas from the Black Sea, the discovery of oil, the production of our cars, we are currently competing with technologically advanced countries that have a century of experience. These are not easy tasks. Because today is May 19th, and freedom and liberty for a country mean this: a country where you can freely walk its streets. A country where you can shout, sing songs, listen to the call to prayer, and live freely and independently among the trees. A country where you can do your own business as you wish. A country where you can travel wherever you want. It is a free country, an independent country. Now, I don’t want to give an example, but let me give one. Syrians are our brothers; they live in Turkey. You know that their movement from one province to another requires permission. I’m telling you this to explain what freedom and liberty mean. Shall I say it again? Their movement from one province to another is subject to the permission of the state.”
Soylu: “The West Exploits Everywhere It Goes”
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu criticized Western countries, saying, “The West is the leader of the exploitation system in the world.” He said, “Look at the West like this. The West is the leader of the exploitation system in the world. They exploit everywhere they go. They exploited Africa in this way. They exploited underground mines. They enslaved people. Until 1950, which is halfway through the 20th century, there was a slavery system in Belgium. Slaves were sold in Belgium. I’m not talking about a very long time ago like 1950. You know they say they are the civilized world. They say that we are the advocates of human rights in the world. When there is a problem with human rights in the world, they intervene in those human rights problems. They always try to adjust us to other countries in the world. Let me tell you something else. Not only the four countries I mentioned earlier, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, but also Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Palestine, Africa—all of these, the West has interfered in and created an understanding that these countries cannot stand on their own.”
Soylu: “Western Countries Want a Uniform Type of Person”
Minister Soylu stated that today is a day that started with the phrase “Either independence or death” and ended with independence. He mentioned that the understanding of a nation governing itself, which is expressed as “kendi kendini yönetme” in Turkish, has survived since that day. Soylu pointed out that Western countries have been fighting against Turkey for 104 years because they did not accept mandates and guardianship. Soylu emphasized that this struggle has continued with coups, interest lobbies, terrorism, and sometimes attacking traditions. However, Soylu stated that global powers have never left Turkey and the countries in the neighboring region alone, and he mentioned that this exploitation continues through internet platforms. Soylu said, “They are building a global communication network. Each one is on our phones… Each one is a part of our daily lives and agenda… So, what do they really want? They want to create a uniform type of person, with similar clothes, attire, values, and identities, whom they can govern as they please.”
