Stakeholder participation meeting of Kocaeli Sustainable Urban Transportation Plan, one of the European Union supported projects of the Metropolitan Municipality, was held.
Aiming to offer a better quality of life to citizens living throughout the city, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality held the 1st stakeholder participation meeting of the Kocaeli Sustainable Urban Transportation Plan (SKUP), which was designed with the support of the European Union, at the Kocaeli Congress Center. At the SKUP meeting, which is one of the European Union (EU) supported projects of the Metropolitan Municipality; Topics that will address the basic needs that will increase the quality of human life such as creating a sustainable, fair, accessible, integrated and inclusive transportation system, reducing traffic volumes and congestion by reducing automobile dependency, and increasing pedestrian and bicycle transportation were discussed.
SKUP PROJECT WILL CONTINUE FOR 2 YEARS
Kocaeli Sustainable Urban Transportation Plan (SKUP), which aims to solve urban transportation problems and contribute to the achievement of local and high-level targets for environmental, social and economic development, is financed by the European Union. Planners, politicians, institutions, local and regional actors and citizens attended the 1st Stakeholder Engagement Meeting, which was held within the scope of the Kocaeli SKUP project, which started in August 2022 and will last for two years.
DIFFERENT WORK IN 12 DIFFERENT THEMES
In the later stages of the project, progress will be made with different working groups on 12 different themes. In this context, at the 1st Stakeholder participation meeting of Kocaeli Sustainable Urban Transportation Plan, Public Transportation, Non-Motorized Transportation and Micro Mobility, Urban Logistics, Private Vehicle and Automobile Usage Accessibility, Road Safety, Social Dimension of Movement, Equality, Environment, Sustainability, Financing, Transportation Distribution of expert groups on Sustainable Energy Resources, Resilience and Strategic Planning was provided.
PROGRESS PROCESSES EVALUATED
A Project Steering Committee Meeting was held to discuss the progress of the project, what data has been obtained at the point reached, and the actions to be undertaken for the successful implementation of the project. Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Head of European Union Investments Department Dr. SKUP project progress processes were evaluated in the meeting held with the participation of Tijen İğci and its expert personnel, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department Head Ahmet Çelebi and the project coordination team, Egis Villes et Transports and Boğaziçi Proje Mühendislik A.Ş.
