Artist Burcu Pehlivan was the guest this week on the program Sanatın Evrimi (The Evolution of Art). The show’s producer and host, Günsu Saraçoğlu, shared detailed insights about Burcu Pehlivan’s artistic career with the audience.

Burcu Pehlivan began her art education at Marmara University, Atatürk Education Faculty, Department of Painting and Art Teaching. She then completed her master’s and proficiency in art at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Currently, she serves as an associate professor at Beykent University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Graphic Design, while also working as a part-time lecturer at Marmara University.

Pehlivan prepared her proficiency thesis on “Urban Culture and Its Reflections on Turkish Painting Art.” During the program, she explained how Istanbul influences her art and how she depicts both the intensity of city life and personal escape points. She particularly highlighted her exhibition “Away from the Maddening Crowd”, which reflected her longing for nature and tranquil spaces on canvas, especially during the pandemic.

Pehlivan, who also teaches adult education at institutions like ISMEK, emphasized that art should reach all segments of society. She advised her university students and ISMEK trainees to observe nature and draw inspiration from art history to broaden their perspectives.

Having served as a jury member in various art competitions, Pehlivan pointed out the importance of age-appropriate evaluation criteria in children’s contests. She also noted that workshops where artists collaborate are valuable for both professional development and artistic exchange.

While acknowledging that digital exhibitions make art more accessible to wider audiences, Pehlivan stated that an artwork’s true size, texture, and spirit can only be fully appreciated in person. She encouraged art lovers to visit galleries and museums.
