The celebrations of May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day were held in Edremit district. Official ceremonies and a youth march were organized as part of the festivities. On the evening of May 19th, a torchlight procession took place in Şehit Hamdibey Square, followed by a concert by Emre Aydın, which crowned the program.

May 19th, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, was celebrated with enthusiasm in Edremit. Following the official ceremonies held as part of the celebrations, a youth march took place. Accompanied by a band, young people walked to Şehit Hamdibey Square. The celebration program continued with an exhibition, choir performance, and dance show held at Edremit Municipality Atatürk Youth Center. The May 19th Oratorio and Youth Choir music performance were attended by Edremit Mayor Selman Hasan Arslan and Deputy Mayor Tayfun Canlı.

Thousands participated in the torchlight procession

In the evening, the program continued with a torchlight procession from Tuzcumurat neighborhood’s Gümrük Square to Şehit Hamdibey Square. The enthusiastic crowd, carrying torches, Turkish flags, and singing patriotic songs, proceeded from Cumhuriyet Square to the square via Yılmaz Akpınar Boulevard. Mayor Selman Hasan Arslan greeted the crowd with the festive spirit and said, “The sons and daughters of Kuva-yi Milliye, Mustafa Kemal’s soldiers, Atatürk said, ‘Our nation is a sacrificial people for its homeland, freedom, and sovereignty.’ We have no deficiencies compared to other nations. We are brave, intelligent, and hardworking. But we have an abundance; we know how to die for lofty goals. With this consciousness and responsibility, with their blood and lives, the noble Turkish youth who made Çanakkale impassable, who made flowers bloom on the mountains of Izmir, Happy May 19th, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day,” he said. Afterwards, young athletes from Edremit presented the trophy they won to Mayor Selman Hasan Arslan on stage and dedicated it to the people of Edremit.

Edremit residents rejoiced with the concert by Emre Aydın

Emre Aydın, a famous figure in Turkish rock music, met with the people of Edremit on the stage set up in Şehit Hamdibey Square. The renowned musician gave a musical feast to the young people who filled the square. The young attendees sang along with the artist throughout the night, knowing his songs by heart.
