The celebration of May 19, Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day in Izmir was filled with great enthusiasm through the events organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Following the “Youth March” attended by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, the famous artist Mabel Matiz performed a concert at Gündoğdu Square. Addressing the crowd there, Soyer said, “We need to do something for victory to be ours. We are heading to the ballot box in 8 days. Are you ready? I promise you prosperity, justice, and freedom that will save your decades. Will you be at the ballot box in 8 days?”
As part of the events for May 19, Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality organized a “Youth March.” Starting at the Lozan entrance of Kültürpark, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, CHP Izmir Provincial Chairman Şenol Aslanoğlu, district mayors, citizens, and young people participated in the march. The crowd walked with banners in hand until Gündoğdu Square.
Magnificent concert by Mabel Matiz As part of the events organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for May 19, the famous artist Mabel Matiz also performed at Gündoğdu Square. The crowd, filling the area, accompanied Mabel Matiz as he performed his songs. Matiz said, “Being with you on such a beautiful day, being in your presence at this magnificent square on May 19, the 100th anniversary of our Republic, is delightful. I am honored to be here tonight. Happy May 19, Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day.”
“Prosperity, justice, and freedom that will save your decades will flow to you” Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer then took the stage and presented a olive sapling as a gift to Matiz, saying, “The olive is the symbol of immortality and peace.” Then addressing the crowd, Mayor Soyer said, “Izmir, beautiful Izmir. Beautiful people of Izmir. Izmir, we are the children of Mustafa Kemal. Atatürk says, ‘Victory belongs to those who can say it is mine.’ Is victory ours?” The crowd responded with a resounding “Yes.” Upon that, Soyer said, “We need to do something for victory to be ours. We are heading to the ballot box in 8 days. Promise? Prosperity, justice, and freedom that will save your decades will flow to you. Will you be at the ballot box in 8 days?” Once again, the crowd replied with “Yes.” When Soyer responded, “Promise?” the crowd shouted “Yes” again. Soyer said, “I would sacrifice myself for you, beautiful people of Izmir. We will win.”
