TEV Graduate Scholar Müge Naoko Gönül Will Climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Girls
Müge Naoko Gönül, a graduate of the Turkish Education Foundation’s outstanding achievement scholarship, will climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, to support female students who do not have access to education. Donations made within the scope of the 8-day climbing, which started on January 14, will be collected in the Summit Scholarship Fund for Educated Girls and will turn into support for the education of girls.
Working for equal opportunity in education for 55 years, the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV), one of Turkey’s deep-rooted foundations, continues to be a big family with its scholars, donors and employees. Graduate scholars also support the education of other young people with the work they do and the projects they participate in.
One of these names is Müge Naoko Gönül, a TEV Outstanding Achievement Scholarship graduate scholar. Gönül will climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain of the African Continent, on January 14 to support female students who do not have access to education. Within the scope of the 8-day climbing, the donations collected in the Scholarship Fund for Educated Girls to the Summit will shed light on the future of female students.
“I dedicate my climb to all our female students who can reach the heights of their dreams step by step”
Speaking before the climb, Müge Naoko Gönül said: “During my university life, with the support of the TEV family, I tried to improve myself in academic and social areas. Mountaineering, which I started as a hobby at university, turned into a passion for me after a point. I realized how much my physical and mental ways of coping with the difficulties I experienced in the mountains improved me. The people I met on these journeys continued to inspire me with their stories.
I dedicate this journey I embarked on to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, to support the education of female students, and to all our female students who will be able to reach the peaks of their dreams, step by step, by overcoming all kinds of difficulties when given the opportunity. By carrying the TEV flag to the summit, I wish to raise awareness for our female students who do not have access to education in our country, and to remind them that we can all support, big or small, in this regard.”
