Bornova Municipality, which works to heal the wounds of earthquake victims with 5 thousand tents set up in various cities in the earthquake region, does not forget the children most affected by the disaster. Bornova Municipality, which has established a tent city in the Yeşilyurt district of Malatya, where 850 people benefit, serves 60 children with three volunteer teachers every day in the kindergarten it opened in the same area. At the nursery in the tent city, a group of volunteers from Korea and soldiers under the command of the 41st Commando Brigade Commander Brigadier General Sinan Gökoğlan also organized activities for children.
Bornova Mayor Dr. Mustafa İduğ said that children experienced the greatest trauma in the earthquake and said, “As a nation, we must first ensure that our children regain their old lives. It is very valuable to make them smile like before, at least to make them smile, albeit slowly. We are doing our best for this. We sincerely thank everyone who supported us in this effort.”
Bornova Municipality, which focuses on meeting all the needs of earthquake victims in the tent cities it has established, also carries out various studies to ensure that children can adapt to normal life. For this purpose, in the kindergarten opened in the Bornova Municipality Tent City in Malatya, children both have fun and acquire new skills according to their age groups. More than 60 children benefit from the kindergarten where volunteer kindergarten teachers work every day. While younger age groups play games and do activities that improve their motor skills, lessons are repeated for children aged 9-10 and older in accordance with the curriculum of the class they were last registered in. On the other hand, the playground established for children has turned the Tent City of Bornova Municipality into a meeting center for children.
Support came from both Turkey and the world for the kindergarten of Bornova Municipality, where the Presidential Candidate of the Nation Alliance and CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu visited and met with the children. Soldiers under the command of Kırklareli 41st Commando Brigade Commander Brigadier General Sinan Gökoğlan, who were on duty in Malatya, set up a cinema system for children in the tent city. Children were shown entertaining movies. A group from Korea, including kindergarten teachers and child development experts, organized activities for children for two days.
