Sırrı Süreyya Önder, speaking at the sixth day sessions with the theme of “Invitation to Loyalty” of the Second Century Economics Congress organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, said, “This really high-quality step of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality needs to be spread all over the country. I think that Mr. Tunç Soyer’s influence and power has made a start far beyond what it seems.”
Director, screenwriter and politician Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who spoke on the sixth day of the Second Century Economics Congress, made a presentation with the title “Loyalty Expectation and Reality”. Sırrı Süreyya Önder said, “I am not a person who has been loyal to anything but reality in life. Loyalty by itself doesn’t mean much. It needs to be referred to by other concepts, the foremost of which is authority. We would not be wrong if we say that the thing that the authority needs most is loyalty. He spends all his energy on keeping us faithful. Official ideology, sacraments, taboos, father, state, king, borders, customs, customs. This list goes on like this. It has been so since the beginning of history. What the hierarchy needs most is loyalty. I would also like to touch on the forms of representation in art. You’ve seen it a lot in theatre, movies, TV series, cinema, literature. Loyalty to the king, his homeland, his family and his horse is very much told. But the form of loyalty, which is usually handled in literature and art, is through love and relationships. There, too, it is a straitjacket that only women try to wear. The man is not held responsible for this. The male-dominated look is reproduced and circulated every day. Loyalty is also what the ideology of masculinity needs most, and it is ruthlessly trampled on every day. Therefore, loyalty does not look like a very precious thing,” he said.
“Izmir people and administrators have a lot of work to do”
Önder also said, “Loyalty needs boundaries, it draws boundaries. If something can be drawn, then we can see it as something whose borders can be erased. This really high-quality step of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality needs to create its own valley and flow from that valley, and its direction should spread to the whole country, gradually gaining a regional identity. Because when the need for the enemy is over, we turn to our closest neighbors. Here, the people of Izmir, the mayor and the administrators have a lot of work to do. I think that Mr. Tunç Soyer’s influence and power has made a start far beyond what it seems.”
