Serhat Kiraz’s new exhibition “Transform”, which opened on April 29 at Maçka Art Gallery, marks a new chapter in the artist’s long-standing conceptual explorations. In this exhibition, Kiraz intersects the decimal number system with the three primary colors, constructing a structure that is both visually and intellectually layered.
The artist comments on the exhibition:
“I named this exhibition ‘Transform’ because everything here is built upon the relationship between variables and constants. The exhibition emerges precisely from that tension.”

Kiraz’s works pair the numbers from 0 to 9 with primary colors—red, blue, and yellow—within an algorithmic system. In this ternary coding structure, as the numbers shift, the colors transform accordingly, resulting in layered surfaces, color transitions, and dynamic visual compositions. In some areas, secondary or tertiary colors emerge, while gray tones and subtle shifts mark the artist’s deliberate departures from the algorithm, creating unique and distinctive visual zones.
Kiraz further explains:
“The numbers you see here demonstrate that everything is built upon numerical foundations, and how the transformation of numbers is directly linked to the transformation of form. All the works are created based on the same structure. As the numbers and codes change, so do the colors and compositions.”
The exhibition features 10 acrylic structure-paintings related to numbers, 6 drawings explaining the system, and in the rear section, compositions based on triadic structures along with two additional pieces. Within Kiraz’s long-standing artistic journey, this exhibition serves as a continuation of an ongoing dialogue with his past work.

“The first exhibition I ever held was at Maçka Art Gallery in 1984,” the artist recalls. “For my first closing exhibition, I presented a show titled Görüntü Düzlemi (Image Plane). This is the second closing exhibition I’ve created since then,” he adds, emphasizing the personal significance of Transform within his artistic journey.
Transform merges mathematical coding with aesthetic perception, offering a conceptual and sensory experience that redefines the meaning of numbers and colors. In this exhibition, Serhat Kiraz invites viewers into a space where rational thought and intuitive visuality coexist in harmony.

The Transform exhibition is open to visitors at Maçka Art Gallery.
