A VALUABLE SUPPORT FROM THE SARAN GROUP TO THE “DISASTER MANAGEMENT PROTOCOL IN A POSSIBLE EARTHQUAKE”
After two major earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, how valuable and effective solidarity is once again becomes apparent, and the spirit of solidarity grows even more.
Istanbul’s Avcılar Municipality and İzmir’s Karşıyaka Municipality, which are mobilized in disaster areas, have added a new one to the realistic measures they have been developing in the face of real problems since they first took office against possible disasters. The two local governments signed the “Joint Disaster Management Service Protocol”, increasing the spirit of solidarity between them. Saran Group, on the other hand, became an important supporter and stakeholder in the implementation of the decision taken in the councils of the two municipalities.
“Disaster Management Service Protocol” with the Undertaking for Assistance in the Event of an Earthquake between Istanbul Avcılar Municipality, Izmir Karşıyaka Municipality and Saran Group; It includes the transfer of the non-earthquake district mayor and related managers to the earthquake zone as soon as possible in order to participate in disaster management and coordination activities in the district that was exposed to the earthquake before and after the earthquakes that may occur in Avcılar and Karşıyaka districts. In the event of an earthquake in Avcılar or Karşıyaka, the air transportation and air support that may be needed in disaster planning and management studies will also be covered by Saran Group.
“Those who are exposed to disaster can never manage the disaster”
Providing information about the protocol, Mayor of Avcılar Turan Hançerli said: “Earthquake sensitivity is our most important issue. And we have done very effective work on it. Those who are exposed to the disaster cannot manage the disaster. That chaos and turmoil does not allow it. We also wanted to have someone who would lead us in case of an earthquake disaster and would not be affected by that earthquake. But at the same time, we wanted them to get to know the city. As a result of our research, we decided to coordinate with Karşıyaka Municipality. We are not on the same fault line. Its structure is similar to ours. There is sea transportation, there is a tsunami risk in both of our districts. We made a mutual agreement with Karşıyaka Municipality, with which we have many common points. In case of an earthquake in that region, we will manage the disaster process in Karşıyaka, and in case of an earthquake in our country, they will manage our disaster process. In order for this support to reach the point of need on time, we decided that the healthiest way is helicopter transportation. Saran Group, the party that undertakes the logistics of meeting our needs of this transportation, has made a valuable contribution to us. Thank you very much. Recent earthquakes have shown once again that earthquake is our most important issue. “While our pre-disaster work continues, we need to be prepared in case of a disaster,” he said.
Karsiyaka Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay:
“I believe that we signed an exemplary cooperation protocol with Avcılar Municipality. We hope that there will not be a devastating disaster after this protocol, but after a possible earthquake that will affect Istanbul and its surroundings, Karşıyaka Municipality will come to Avcılar by air, and after a possible İzmir earthquake, our Avcılar Municipality will come to Karşıyaka and take over the management. Predetermined, informed and authorized personnel will continue management until normalization occurs. In addition, after the protocol, we will mutually explain our action plans regarding municipal facilities, personnel situation, and the management and administration of vehicles, equipment and materials. We will introduce Karşıyaka to them; they will introduce us to the Hunters. I would like to express once again that it will be an exemplary cooperation.” said.
Sadettin Saran, Saran Group Chairman of the Board of Directors: “The earthquake that took place on February 6 and affected millions of people deeply saddened us all. Unfortunately, we cannot prevent the earthquake from happening, but we must take our precautions. I think that this project constitutes an exemplary model of solidarity and management in terms of making disaster action plans sustainable. We are happy to support such a project.” said.
