A report on the discovery of topography will accompany the photograph series, in which Sevinçli documents the peripheral areas of Istanbul that have begun to lose their natural texture due to heavy industry and development projects, and which was previewed globally in January.
Program partners Artangel (UK), Artingenium (Spain),uzunon (Australia), Dhaka Art Summit (Bangladesh), MALI – Lima Art Museum & Proyectoamil (Peru), NEON (Greece), Odawara Art Foundation (Japan), Te Tuhi (New Zealand), will be included in the WWN presentation at SAHA Studio. Launched by SAHA in 2019 with the functionalization of a 350 square meter space in Beyoğlu, SAHA Studio opens a space for invited artists to continue their work by providing research, production, exhibition and presentation support for their projects, as well as working space and curatorial support. SAHA Studio, which also hosts international curators and writers, hosts more than 10 participants in two separate periods each year with its programs that contribute to the enrichment of the dialogue in the art environment. About Studies:
Elmas Deniz’s video titled “Illusion of Encounter”, produced at SAHA Studio, focuses on species that have been brought to the brink of extinction or transformed as an inevitable result of human-induced environmental crisis and global warming. In the performance titled “The Council of Lost Plants”, in which she includes plant-sculptures whose scales are manipulated, Elmas raises the question of what kind of negotiation space can be between human and non-human.

The works produced by Can Küçük at SAHA Studio under the main title It is Burning are shaped around the concepts of “heat” and “source”. Heat, which is one of the main determinants of the relationship of the human body with the environment and the elements in the environment with each other, shows itself as crisis situations in sudden temperature changes. Studies that center the source look at the retrospective production process of objects, the person who produced them, and their conditions.

Produced by Burcu Yağcıoğlu at SAHA Studio, Dear Restlessness, is a multi-layered project shaped by the concepts of inertia and stopping. The project, which feeds on fields such as psychoanalysis, physics, biology, science fiction, and mythology, is based on thoughts and speculations that stagnation and inertia can be a radical way of existence in a reality where people’s relentless movements lead to destruction of the planet.

About the World Weather Network:
SAHA established the World Weather Network, which means “World Weather Network”, together with 27 art institutions from different continents. Art institutions participating in this network are planned to set up symbolic “weather stations” in different corners of the world, in oceans, deserts, mountains, farmlands, rainforests, observatories, lighthouses or cities in response to the global climate emergency. Starting from June 21, 2022, the longest day in the northern hemisphere, for at least a year, artists and writers share their observations, stories, images and dreams about the local weather and our common climate as “weather reports” from different voices and voices on this new global platform. creates an archipelago of perspectives.
SAHA presented texts within the scope of the SAHA Series in 2022, as well as special events and artist projects at SAHA Studio, within the scope of the program in which the historical watchtower, Galata Tower, right across from its office, is positioned as the symbolic weather station of Istanbul. In addition, Elmas Deniz’s video piece named “Keder” and the artist book “Firewalk”, prepared by Burcu Yağcıoğlu together with Ülgen Semerci, were included in the World Weather Network exhibition held at Art Sonje Center, the program partner in Korea, between October 13 and November 20, 2022. .
“The world’s weather is not what it used to be. We see glaciers melt and water levels rise. Some lands are flooded, while others are on fire. It’s getting hot everywhere. Established in response to the climate emergency, the World Weather Network is a collection of weather stations set up by 28 arts organizations around the world and is an invitation to look, listen, learn and act. From June 21, 2022 to June 21, 2023, artists, writers and communities will share their observations of local weather, stories, thoughts and images, creating an archipelago of sounds and perspectives. Bringing together climate scientists and environmentalists, the World Weather Network brings together different worldviews and methods of understanding weather across multiple regions and languages. Climate scientists, environmentalists and different communities participate in a variety of special event programs that are held locally and online in many places through the platform. Special reports are ordered throughout the year from authors included in the London Review of Books, the World Weather Network. While each organization reports its own local weather, each of these “weather stations” is linked to overheating of the earth’s atmosphere. The World Weather Network is an invitation to look, listen, learn and act as we offer alternative ways to respond to the world’s weather and climate.”
