Kocaeli Mayor Tahir Büyükakın attended the 44th General Assembly meeting of the Council of Europe Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The 44th General Assembly of the Congress began with a stance of respect for the earthquake victims who lost their lives in the earthquake -based earthquakes in Turkey. Büyükakın, President of the Turkish Delegation, made a speech at the congress, said, ’’ We had a great disaster. I witnessed how the teams coming from abroad work sacrificed with our teams. We will never forget what you have done to support us in our difficult times. ’

Mayor Büyükakın said; ’’ On the morning of February 6, our country awakened to a great disaster. In the early hours, search and rescue and aid teams from all over Turkey flocked to Maraş, the central base of the earthquake.

In the following hours, we learned that the earthquake has more destructive effects not only in Maraş but also in the surrounding area. Our government called on international aid due to the size of the disaster. ’’

We will never forget what has been done

Mayor Büyükakın stated that there is about a month in the disaster area and that he saw the aid teams all over the world there. I should also say that I have witnessed that local governments have signed very successful works in the management of such major disasters. Unfortunately, I have seen how social media manipulations make the work of selfless teams and disaster victims. We lost nearly fifty thousand. We have many wounded and earthquake victims in need of help. Despite the size of the disaster, we started to recover very quickly. There is still a lot of work to do, so there is a need for help. For this reason, I find the solidarity effectiveness you organize very meaningful. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the organization of this event. We will never forget what you have done to support us in our difficult times. I once again commemorate the lives we lost in the earthquake. I wish the condolences to their relatives and health to the wounded ’’.
