A ceremony was held at Ege University on the occasion of 14 March Medicine Day. EÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak, Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Cemil Gürgün, hospital senior management, academics, healthcare professionals and students. In the event, plaques were given to the units and academicians who achieved success in 2022, and a “Certificate of Appreciation” was presented to the health personnel of Ege University who volunteered in the earthquake zone.
Making the opening speech of the event, which started with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, Ege University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak said, “I would like to express my happiness to share the enthusiasm of our doctors and healthcare workers, who value human life above everything else and who work with great devotion and devotion despite all difficult conditions. We know that being a doctor is one of the important professions that starts with a difficult and difficult education process from university years and requires constant renewal, monitoring developments and being at the center of scientific research. On behalf of myself and my university, I would like to express my gratitude to all our doctors, compatriots and health personnel who chose this sacred, respected and honorable profession and dedicate themselves to humanity. Our physicians, who are the soldiers of this sacred profession, undertake one of the heaviest responsibilities in order to find solutions to all kinds of diseases that adversely affect human health in line with the opportunities provided by science and technology and to make the impossible real. Undoubtedly; The inventions obtained by scientists as a result of their devoted work serving humanity have facilitated human life and enabled humanity to live a happier and healthier life. Turkish medicine has also pioneered developments that often direct medical science, with the outstanding efforts of our doctors and other health personnel. Today, it gives us all hope and pride that our scientists contribute to medical science with their success in our country and in various parts of the world.”

In his speech, Prof. Sharing notes about the history of Medicine Day and the struggle of healthcare workers during the War of Independence, Prof. Dr. Cemil Gürgün said, “This year, when we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of our Republic, is a much more meaningful year for us. The most important task awaiting the younger generations is to protect and develop this unique work. For this, we need to work tirelessly under the leadership of reason and science. In the last 5 years, very important developments have been achieved in our university and faculty with the contributions of our Rector, Mr. Necdet Budak. Being a fully accredited research university, being student-oriented, internationalization, digitalization, renewing the medical equipment and physical spaces of our faculty hospital, completing the architectural project of our new hospital building, preparing the central operating room for the opening, closing the hospital’s debts, and employment of health workers at a record level are just one of them. how many?” he said.
