The guests of journalist Faik Gürses in the “Gündem Special” program broadcast on D-Smart were our World and European champion wrestler Nesrin Baş and our European champion wrestler Ebru Dağbaşı.
Ebru Dagbasi; He explained his goals for the upcoming period:
“I was second in Europe at U20, third at U20 World Championship, and third in Europe at U23 this year. I’m just missing my gold medal. My goal is the U23 World Championship there, I see myself close to the gold medal.” said.
World and European champion Nesrin Baş said:
“The important thing is to stay on top after becoming champion. I worked harder for him. Now I am preparing for the Olympics. We have a very hard working process until one week before the matches. We work until we cry from exhaustion. Preparing for tournaments is a difficult process. Wrestling is a more difficult sport, especially for women. But we are very happy when we win a medal. I have the possibility of going to the European Senior Championships. Not sure yet. It will be determined at camp. It is very important for us to go to the senior championships and win a medal there.” he said.
Nesrin Baş talked about how she prepared for the matches and her struggle in the matches:
“I don’t want to watch my own matches too much. Our coaches first analyze our competitors. They tell us about their weaknesses and strengths. I find it better to fight without knowing how my opponent is. During the match, we listen to what our coaches see during the match. According to him, we continue our struggle.”
Wrestling Federation President Şeref Eroğlu, who was connected to the program by phone, evaluated the medals received recently:
“Our women’s national team continues as the eighth wonder of the world in 2022 and 2023. We are proud. Since we came to the Federation, we have trusted the youth. We believed they would be successful. We are getting very good results. Now we expect medals from these young people in the senior championships. We won a total of 17 medals at the U23 European Championship held in Romania. We were a little short on the gold medal count. Our athletes, who placed in the top five at the World Championships in September this year, will go to the Paris Olympics. Our goal is to return from this championship with good results. As the federation, we have to prepare these athletes for the championships in the best way possible.”
Ebru Dağbaşı talked about her career progression:
“I was in the Tokat club. He met with Burhan Özel, my physical education teacher there, and we went to his club. We were Beşiktaş’s athletes when we were in U20 last year, and we still continue with Burhan teacher in Beşiktaş. We are happy with our club, they are behind us in everything. They never leave us alone.” said.
Nesrin Baş also expressed her satisfaction with Beşiktaş Club:
“We are very happy with our club. I’m happy to be here because we are like a family. After every match, they welcome us whether we win or lose. I am proud of my club.”
Regarding the coaches they work with, two of our wrestlers said:
Ebru Dağbaşı: Good thing they exist. They have been spending a lot of time with the national team for a long time. They almost know us better than our families. They are with us in difficult times.
Nesrin Baş: When we train, we have a doctor, we have a physiotherapist, we have a masseur. All of them have a lot of work. Not only coaches, but also invisible names have a lot of effort.
Ebru Dağbaşı, who will attend the camp in Edirne, said:
“We have the Senior European Championships ahead of us. We will be at the camp with athletes who are older than us. We will benefit from their experience. This is a very important and beautiful feeling. Seeing them increases our motivation. Sharing on the same mat with our important wrestlers like Yasemin Adar is exciting and very beneficial for us.”
Nesrin Baş finally said:
“We exist thanks to our older sisters. We grew up watching Yasemin sister run with the flag and Buse sister’s techniques. As we watch them, we see our shortcomings. As we train with them, we improve ourselves. They warn us, they share their experiences.” said.
