Numan Aykut Şahin’s exhibition “Hasibe: A Village Story Beyond the Line” will be meeting art enthusiasts at the Asmalımescit Art Gallery from May 26 to June 15.
The artist draws inspiration for his exhibition from his grandmother Hasibe and the family lands he frequently visited during his childhood. The story, shaped by his own roots and the friends of his grandmother Hasibe, is based on childhood memories in the village of Maltepe in the Keşan district of Edirne. It features characters he observed, different body forms, and a variety of motifs. From these rich observations, Şahin creates avant-garde peasant “Fat Lady” sculptures.
The artist also draws inspiration from the geographical, geological, and biological diversity of the village of Maltepe, which served as his playground during childhood. Images such as swamps, mud, centipedes, and frogs are featured in his works, creating a deep connection to Şahin’s childhood memories.
Numan Aykut Şahin, who has an education in fashion and works in styling, utilizes his experience in this field when dressing his sculptures. The artist presents the variety of motifs in his story through a wide range, highlighting details with rich mosaics in his works.
This unique exhibition offers art enthusiasts a different perspective by presenting an avant-garde interpretation of village life and Şahin’s childhood memories. The exhibition, which can be visited at the Asmalımescit Art Gallery starting from May 26, will be open until June 15.
