New Hyundai KONA Electric Offers a Different Driving Experience.
Developed based on the electric version, Hyundai KONA Electric is now available for sale in Europe.
The car, which offers the largest interior space in its class, will also be available for sale in Turkey in November.
The New KONA Electric, which is more aesthetic, bolder, and more dynamic, comes with two different motor options.
Hyundai’s New KONA Electric, which is produced at Hyundai’s factory in the Czech Republic and exported to more than 40 countries, confidently expresses its bold and dynamic character. KONA promises a wider range of comfort for daily use in addition to providing users with a genuine electric car experience.
The All-New KONA uses two different motor and battery types as its greatest strength to create a highly competitive alternative in the B-SUV segment for electric models. Developed by Hyundai with the latest technology and based on the EV version, KONA has also given life to petrol and petrol-hybrid siblings in the same body type.
The New KONA, which is larger, bolder, and more dynamic compared to the previous generation, offers a driving pleasure suitable for every lifestyle. With its unique and iconic design, the vehicle stands out from traditional typology, both in its exterior and interior design. Positioned between the Hyundai BAYON and TUCSON, the New KONA has larger dimensions compared to the previous generation, thanks to the K3 platform. With this new model, Hyundai will enrich its EV product range in Turkey. Together with KONA Electric, Hyundai’s EV models offered for sale in Turkey will constitute 40% of the product range.
Unique design features
To distinguish the New KONA from traditional internal combustion engines, Hyundai adopted a design process primarily focused on EVs. This resulted in a futuristic EV-focused exterior design where dynamic purity meets boldly shaped strength.
The New KONA Electric stands out in aerodynamic performance without compromising on a stylish appearance. The aerodynamic front and elegantly shaped claddings between the front bumper and the tailgate, as well as the connected parametric surface design, are particularly eye-catching. The integrated High-Mounted Stop Lamp (HMSL) connected to satin chrome spoilers also gives the car a distinctive identity.
The robust and sporty appearance features of an SUV are supported by embedded front and rear lights in the body, while parametric side panels and transition lines allow the vehicle to have a wider stance than it actually is. Special design multi-spoke 18 and 19-inch wheels also emphasize the sporty character of the KONA Electric.
ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) versions incorporate most of the design features of the EV with a unique touch. The front bumper in the BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) version stands out with a three-dimensional cladding and protective plate instead of a radiator grille. The electric version, apart from the front and rear, also differs with the lower bumper design and pixel graphics on the front grille. The aerodynamic side skirts and body-colored cladding design are another distinction.
Compared to the previous-generation KONA, the new model has unique proportions due to its increased dimensions. The length of the vehicle is 4,355 mm for the EV version. Compared to the first-generation KONA Electric, the New KONA is 175 mm longer, and its wheelbase is extended by 60 mm to 2,660 mm. The width stands out with a 25 mm increase at 1,825 mm, while the height is 20 mm higher in the new version (1,575 mm).
Technological interior
Based on its enhanced dimensions and universal architecture derived from EVs, the New KONA Electric provides a more spacious living space. Therefore, it has been designed with a wide and open layout plan for greater passenger comfort and easy loading space. The driver-focused architecture in the front emphasizes the vehicle’s high-tech character with an integrated dual 12.3-inch panoramic screen horizontal cockpit layout.
The New KONA Electric, with a steering-wheel-integrated gear lever like in IONIQ models, offers a larger space in the center console. The car provides extra storage space for daily comfort, including additional storage for mobile phones or tablets.
To help reduce fatigue during driving or afterward, the seats, optimized for ‘weightless’ body pressure distribution, are designed much thinner compared to the previous generation. The fully foldable second-row seats and rear compartment offer up to 466 liters (according to the VDA standard) of cargo space for enhanced loading. Equipped with a customizable Smart Electric Tailgate for easy loading, the vehicle offers users five different adjustable height levels.
The largest and most comfortable in its class
The new KONA Electric offers a 60 mm longer wheelbase, 77 mm more legroom, and 11 mm higher headroom in the rear seats compared to the previous generation. The rear shoulder room of the vehicle, which has the best interior space in its class, is also 1,402 mm, making it the largest in its class.
The battery of the new KONA Electric provides safe charging and range performance even in winter. The vehicle allows opening the charging cap even at -30 degrees, and it also provides comfortable visibility at night with its new charging port light. The Head-Up Display (HUD) projects essential driving information onto the windshield with a 12-inch projection, helping drivers keep their attention on the road while safely monitoring information. The Electronic Smart Sound Distributor (e-ASD) creates a virtual sound that makes EVs more interesting, taking into account variables such as driving speed, torque, motor status, and acceleration to add an optimal sound to the cabin. Drivers can control the sound level and customize the cabin sound accordingly.
The Vehicle-to-Power (V2L) function, as seen in the IONIQ 5 and 6, can provide power to any device with both interior and exterior outlets or charge electric equipment with 3 kW of power. Even while the vehicle is running, it can provide power to electric tools through a standard outlet (230V) on the rear center console. The new i-PEDAL allows drivers to accelerate, decelerate, and stop using only the accelerator pedal. KONA Electric also comes with the “Smart Regenerative System,” which automatically adjusts the regenerative braking amount based on variables such as driving speed, torque, motor status, and acceleration, further enhancing the driving experience.
Best-in-class electronic control technology and connectivity
KONA Electric stands out with its 12.3-inch dual panoramic screens. These screens, integrated into the Audio-Video Navigation (AVN) system, provide a fully digital infotainment experience for both entertainment and driving pleasure.
The seven-speaker Premium Sound System, developed specifically by Bose engineers, offers a rich music experience. Both the driver and passengers have easy access to two USB-C charging devices in the front (one including data support) and a 12V power outlet, as well as two USB-C charging devices in the rear.
Safety features
The second-generation KONA is equipped with advanced Hyundai Smart Sense ADAS features that are not commonly found in other B-SUVs, providing the highest level of safety and comfort during travel.
The Interior Camera (ICC) uses the vehicle’s internal camera to analyze the driver’s attention and issue warnings or intervene if drowsiness or inattentiveness is detected. The Remote Smart Parking Assistant (RSPA) helps drivers remotely enter and exit parking spaces. The Smart Key can also move the vehicle forward or backward with a button press. The Blind Spot View Monitor (BVM) assists the driver by displaying the blind spot view on the screen when changing lanes.
It works in conjunction with Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), including Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), to warn of a collision risk with vehicles in blind spots when changing lanes and apply automatic braking if necessary.
KONA Electric offers additional safety features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0 (FCA 2.0), which provides advanced features such as intersection crossing, approaching lane change, and lateral lane change. It also includes Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), which helps drivers maintain a safe following distance with the vehicle in front and assists in overtaking slower vehicles. The technological vehicle is equipped with various other advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), and High Beam Assist (HBA). It is also equipped with various driving comfort features such as Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), and Lane Following Assist (LFA).
Powertrain options
The electric model is available to European users with two battery options. The long-range version with a 65.4 kWh battery and a 400V charging infrastructure provides a maximum of 218 PS (160 kW) of power and a range of over 514 kilometers. The standard version comes with a 48.4 kWh battery capacity, offering 156 PS (111 kW) of power and a driving range of 377 kilometers.
The new KONA Electric can charge from 10% to 80% in just 41 minutes with a 100 kW DC fast charger. The standard-range version with a 48.4 kWh battery can charge in 4 hours and 55 minutes with an 11 kW AC charger, while the long-range version with a 65.4 kWh battery can charge in 6 hours and 55 minutes.
The Hyundai KONA Electric will meet Turkish consumers in November and will contribute to Hyundai’s electrification efforts in Turkey.
