Gökhan Tüfekçi’s solo exhibition, “Şeytanımız Bol Olsun” (May We Have Plenty of Devils), will meet Istanbul art enthusiasts at MeshRu starting Friday, January 10.
Located at No. 99 Meşrutiyet Avenue in Beyoğlu, MeshRu opened its doors in October 2024 with the vision of creating an egalitarian and inclusive meeting point. Now, the gallery is preparing to host “Şeytanımız Bol Olsun,” an exhibition brought to life in collaboration with Galeri Siyah-Beyaz and artist Gökhan Tüfekçi.
Gökhan Tüfekçi, also known as Kara Gözüktü Kaptan, reinterprets concepts from popular and arabesque culture through the lens of miniature art and street art practices. Drawing on the myths, tales, and folk legends of the region we live in, Tüfekçi crafts new narratives by reassembling selected characters and events from these stories.
Tüfekçi approaches the perspective and layering techniques of miniature art with his own unique style, extending beyond the canvas to encompass the entire exhibition space with his vivid use of color and figures. In addition to traditional painting techniques, he presents three-dimensional works and wall murals that utilize the venue’s architecture. Tüfekçi visualizes his works around the concept of absurdity, combining elements as diverse as street slang, childhood imagery, shadow play, and slogans with an ironic touch.
Gökhan Tüfekçi’s solo exhibition, “Şeytanımız Bol Olsun” (May We Have Plenty of Devils), will be open to visitors at MeshRu from January 10 to March 16, 2025. The gallery hours are Monday to Wednesday, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday to Sunday, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
