The Turkey Cup Bursa Chess Provincial Championship Tournament, organized in collaboration with Nilüfer Municipality, Bursa Chess Provincial Representation, and Bursa Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate, concluded after three days of intense competition held at Balat Chess House. A fierce competition took place among the 32 athletes who participated in the tournament.
A total of 32 athletes, ranging in age from 9 to 58, competed in the tournament. Additionally, 11 athletes who teach in Bursa, 8 athletes from the Chess National Team, and 5 athletes who were Bursa champions in previous years also participated in the tournament.
In the finals held on January 14, 2024, Sunday, athletes engaged in intense battles, carefully selecting their moves. The successful athletes were rewarded at the award ceremony.
Dr. Sibel Özer, Vice Mayor of Nilüfer Municipality, expressed her great satisfaction with Balat Chess House hosting such a significant tournament in her speech at the ceremony. Özer stated, “Today, I see that we have achieved our goal. I would like to thank the representatives, executives, referees, athletes, parents, and colleagues who made this facility meaningful. I congratulate those who have achieved success and participated in the tournament.”
Bursa Chess Provincial Representative Mehmet Durak emphasized the competitive matches of the tournament and thanked Nilüfer Municipality and everyone involved.
Hasan Atış became the champion of the tournament, followed by Necmettin Korkmaz in second place and Arda Pekkul in third place. Vice Mayor Dr. Sibel Özer presented the awards to the winners. Athletes in the top 3 received both trophy and cash prizes, while athletes in the 4th and 5th positions received medals and cash prizes. Athletes in the top 10 were also awarded medals.
This successful event made a significant contribution to the wider promotion of chess sports in Bursa.
