Karabağlar Municipality celebrated the 108th Anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory with enthusiasm; He commemorated our martyrs who gave their lives for this country with mercy and gratitude.
Karabağlar Mayor Muhittin Selvitopu attended the ceremony held at the Karabağlar District Governorate on the occasion of the 18 March Martyrs’ Day and the 108th Anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory and laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument.
Later, a commemoration ceremony was held by Karabağlar Municipality in Martyrs Park in Ali Fuat Cebesoy District. The ceremony was attended by President Selvitopu and his wife Fügen Selvitopu, as well as Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyr’s Widows and Orphans Association Izmir Branch President Recep Doğru, our veterans, relatives of martyrs, council members, headmen, representatives of political parties and non-governmental organizations. citizens participated.
The ceremony started with a moment of silence for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, our martyrs and our citizens who lost their lives in the recent disasters, and the singing of our National Anthem. Before the moment of silence, the names of the martyrs of Karabağlar were read one by one.
Afterwards, Gazi İbrahim Yılmaz gave an opening speech on the meaning of the day on behalf of the Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyr’s Widows and Orphans Association İzmir Branch.
With the spirit of Çanakkale…
Karabağlar Mayor Muhittin Selvitopu started his speech by commemorating our citizens who lost their lives in the recent disasters with mercy. Emphasizing that he believes that the Turkish nation will overcome such difficulties with the spirit of unity, togetherness and solidarity, as in Çanakkale 108 years ago, President Selvitopu said, “Despite all kinds of difficulties, we are a nation that has managed to fight against seven heifers in Çanakkale and to resist by burying the pain in its heart. Now we will bandage our wounds with the same strength and spirit.”
Pointing out that Çanakkale cannot be remembered without Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, President Selvitopu said, “This country is entrusted to us from our martyrs, especially Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gave that great struggle. It is our duty to carry this legacy into the future.
As long as the spirit of Çanakkale continues, our Republic will live forever. With this belief, I commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades in arms, and our martyrs who gave their lives for this country in Çanakkale and afterwards with mercy and gratitude. I also offer my respects to all the families of martyrs,” he said.
After President Selvitopu’s speech, İzmir State Theater Retired Artist Rüçhan Güler sang Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s poem “To Çanakkale Martyrs”.
The ceremony ended with the placing of red carnations on the monument with the names of the martyrs.
Karabağlar Municipality also gave bites to our martyrs in Martyrs Park, Eskiizmir Pazaryeri and Fahrettin Altay Square as part of March 18 Martyrs’ Day.
