“Towards the 100th anniversary of the Republic, the selection “Towards the Republic,” consisting of 9 archival films specially prepared for the occasion, will be featured in the Engelsiz Filmler Festival 2023 program!
Organized for the eleventh time this year by Puruli Culture and Arts, the Engelsiz Filmler Festival will present a 42-minute special selection from the internationally renowned collection of EYE Filmmuseum, which contains 9 archival films. This selection will be presented with audio descriptions for cinema enthusiasts.
The presentation of the curated selection, prepared by Elif Rongen Kaynakçı, the Silent Film Curator of EYE Filmmuseum, which is the only film heritage and culture museum in the Netherlands, housing over 55,000 films from the earliest motion pictures to the newest releases, will be accompanied by sign language interpretation by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gürata.
In the selection, emphasized by Elif Rongen-Kaynakçı as “Archival footage that has survived through all filters of time allows us to feel the changes on the streets rather than reading about them in historical books.” The films included are Istanbul and the Golden Horn / Turkey, Fountains of Constantinople & Turkish Women in Constantinople, Constantinople: Landscapes of the Largest City in Southern Europe, Smyrna, Smyrna – Ephesus – Selçuk, Turkey – Istanbul Shootings at Pathécolor, Gaumont Graphic (Newsreel) – Kızılay Çadırı, Pathé’s Animated Gazette (Newsreel) – İsmet Paşa’s Arrival in Istanbul, and Balkan War Compilation.
The Engelsiz Filmler Festival will take place from October 20th to 26th in Ankara at Paribu Cineverse ANKAmall and Goethe Institut, and on November 4th and 5th in Eskişehir at Cinema Pink Kanatlı AVM. The 14 films included in the “Short Film Competition” can also be viewed online from all over Turkey between October 20th and 26th at eff2023.muvi.com.
