Inegol Municipality, which carried out a billboard study in order to draw attention to the issue of zero waste due to the 30 March International Zero Waste Day and to announce the works in this field to the public, collected 31 thousand tons of waste in 4 years; He announced that 255 thousand trees, 2 million kg of greenhouse gas, 100 thousand barrels of oil and 100 million kWh of energy were saved.
Inegol Municipality took an important step in 2019 regarding the unconscious use of natural resources, which is the biggest problem of our time, and established the first Zero Waste Office in Bursa within the scope of the Zero Waste Project initiated by First Lady Emine Erdogan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. At the same time, İnegöl Municipality, which included the cleaning services of the city and the collection of recycling waste, achieved significant gains in zero waste in 4 years.
GAINS OBTAINED IN 4 YEARS ARE SHARED WITH THE PUBLIC
Due to the 30 March International Zero Waste Day, İnegöl Municipality carried out a billboard study to draw attention to zero waste and recycling and to announce the work done in this field to the public. In the design, in which the achievements achieved in 4 years are listed one by one, the people of the district were also thanked for their support. In the study, it was stated that 31 thousand tons of waste was collected in 4 years and with these wastes; It was announced that 255 thousand trees, 2 million kg of greenhouse gas, 100 thousand barrels of oil and 100 million kWh of energy were saved.
“WE SUCCESS AS A CITY”
Mayor Alper Taban, who also made a statement on the subject, pointed out that the unconscious use of natural resources, which is the biggest problem of our age, unfortunately consumes the ecosystem and causes waste to accumulate in the air, soil and water. Pointing out that the natural life is in great danger as the resources are depleted at this point, Mayor Taban said, “For a better future, an increase has been observed in the amount of waste collected together with the trainings held in public institutions and organizations within the scope of the Zero Waste Project since 2019. As an institution, we opened the first zero waste office in Bursa in 2019. We have achieved significant gains in the last 4 years as a result of including both the activities of this office and the collection of cleaning and recycling wastes within our own structure. These gains are recorded as values that are brought to the future. Of course, while doing this, the contribution and support of our citizens to the project was great. As a city, we have provided this tableau to emerge. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our citizens once again.”
“WE ARE LEAVING A BEAUTIFUL HERITAGE TO THE FUTURE”
Reminding that they carried out a billboard study in order to share the 4-year data with the public and to see the results obtained, Mayor Taban said, “We wanted our citizens to see and know the results of these studies. In this way, they should pay more attention, and those who do not contribute to the zero waste project can see and support here. Look, we have collected 31 thousand tons of waste in 4 years. These wastes were collected thanks to the recycling of our citizens at the source. It was formed by the separate collection of recyclable wastes other than garbage and their proper disposal by our teams. As a result, we have brought 255 thousand trees into the future with 4 years of effort. In other words, we prevented 255 thousand trees from being cut down by contributing to recycling. We have saved 2 million kg of greenhouse gas, 100 thousand barrels of oil and 100 million kWh of energy. These are not numbers to be underestimated. As İnegöl, we left a beautiful legacy to the future. We will continue to quit with our ongoing work.”
WHAT IS INTENDED WITH ZERO WASTE?
Talking about what is aimed with zero waste, Chairman Taban said, “Resources are used more efficiently with zero waste. Costs are reduced as waste is avoided. The risks for the environment and living things are reduced. Excessive cutting of trees is prevented. There is a decrease in the amount of greenhouse gases released into the air. Savings are achieved in waste storage areas. For example, for every 1 ton of glass recycled, 100 liters of oil can be saved. As a result of these, a cleaner and livable world remains for future generations with economic contributions. On the occasion of March 30, International Zero Waste Day, I once again invite our citizens to be more sensitive in this regard and to contribute to our zero waste practices.
