The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has started loading a ship to assist with lodging and evacuation, if necessary, for disaster victims in the earthquake zone in Iskenderun, Hatay. The first ship to set sail, the Orhangazi with a capacity of 1,200 people, will provide a partial solution to the housing problem in the disaster area. The ferry, equipped with a kitchen for hot meals, accommodation areas, infirmaries, psychological counseling rooms, and play areas for children, will set sail with 109 personnel and relief materials collected from IMM centers.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is setting sail with two ferries, each with a capacity of 1,200 passengers, to support and heal the disaster victims following two major earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. The loading of aid packages onto the ferries, which will set sail towards Hatay Iskenderun in the morning hours, is currently being carried out.
The priority of the ferries is to assist with lodging and evacuation, if necessary, and they include a living and accommodation area for citizens, showers and toilets, as well as a kitchen capable of producing three meals for 1,200 people, an infirmary, and psychological counseling rooms, and a fuel tanker. Play areas for children affected by the disaster have also been set up on the ship. The ship will be staffed with a total of 109 personnel, including crew, health personnel, psychologists, drivers, kitchen staff, security personnel, and a preschool teacher, to support the disaster victims.
The ferries, which will set sail on Saturday morning, are expected to reach Iskenderun after a journey of 25-30 hours. The ferries will serve as a bandage for the earthquake that affected millions of people.
