This week on ‘With Eylül Aşkın…’, sports reporter and writer Eray Emin Aydemir is the guest.
We talked with Eray Emin Aydemir, a member of the Beşiktaş Sports Club General Assembly and a solid metal music listener, who started his career in the finance sector, then moved on to sports journalism, and has been continuing for the last ten years by writing research books with the main themes of Esotericism, Theology, Paganism, and Shamanism, appealing to a niche audience. We discussed the elements and traditions of Shamanism and Paganism in Turkish society, how he began his writing journey, the sources that inspire him, his books, and his upcoming projects.

Eray Emin Aydemir, who noted that growing up in a multicultural neighborhood in Feriköy and completing his education in various cities due to his parents’ work, which involved constant moving, influenced his early interest in environmental changes, human changes, and the cultures people create. He said, “This affects your ability to observe people, which is a tremendous treasure for writing.”
“I Was Asking the Questions ‘Why, For What Reason, How?’ Very Often”
Expressing that he has been interested in mathematics since childhood and questioned everything, Eray Emin Aydemir described his interest in topics such as Esotericism, Paganism, and Shamanism: “These questions I asked brought about uncertainties. I started to be interested in areas that provided the closest answers to these uncertainties. Discovering the Italian poet Dante transformed this obsession to another level.”

“There Was More Interest in My Books Than I Expected.”
Author Eray Aydemir, who produces content on a very specific topic and has six books, said, “There was more interest in my books than I expected. This shows that factors such as the problem of not being able to evolve, social pressure, the disconnect between family and the new generation, and the significant increase in digitalization have pushed people into different searches.”

New Book on the Way!
Inspired by Byung-Chul Han’s book The Burnout Society, Eray Emin Aydemir, who stated, “We live in a digital prison. We carry a digital shackle,” mentioned that he is preparing a series based on this observation. He also stated that he is working on a study about the connections between the Vikings and Turkish society, but since this study will take longer, it will reach readers in the long term.
