Painting for 42 years, artist Atila Aktürk shared with Eylül Aşkın the story of the emergence of his latest series, which started with Silent Screams in 2015, in the program Art’s Evolution, which is broadcast every Friday at 18:30 on the Turkey News Portal YouTube channel.
“I will paint what I have lived and what I have not lived in this country.”
The artist, who graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Education, Department of Painting, decided during his university years that he wanted to further his career in painting. Today, Atila Aktürk describes his paintings as “My stories that I cannot write” and expresses his life stories and inner world in his works.

“Painting is not considered an important subject in our country.”
Arguing that there are no beautiful paintings and that painting should not be graded, the retired teacher said, “I don’t think painting is a lesson. I never gave anyone a weak grade, and I never got along with the administrators because of this.”

“An artist must have a naive and sensitive side.”
Stating that the sensitivity of the ordinary person and the artist should be different, Atila Aktürk said that the artist should be able to see things differently than other people, and that he thinks that the accumulations obtained from these observations and experiences should be put on canvas.
