Günsu Saraçoğlu, known for her contributions to the art field as well as her identity as a press member and painter, unveiled her personal exhibition titled “ReBirth, Kayıp Parça Kimde?” on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Evrim Art Gallery. Prominent figures from the art and press community attended the opening of the exhibition, which will run until July 4th. Evrim Ketenci’s violin performance accompanied Saraçoğlu’s artworks.
Known for her work on social responsibility projects, Saraçoğlu, along with Evrim Art Gallery founder Betül Ketenci, announced that they will donate a portion of the proceeds from the “ReBirth, Kayıp Parça Kimde?” exhibition to TUKD-Türk Üniversiteli Kadınlar Derneği (Turkish Association of University Women) as a contribution.
Since 2013, Saraçoğlu has been expressing her thoughts on topics such as urban transformation, nature, climate, and environmental destruction through her paintings. Last year, her “ReBirth” collection, which was simultaneously exhibited in Istanbul and the USA and featured in numerous international environmental conferences, has once again met art enthusiasts with the question “Kayıp Parça Kimde?” (Where is the Lost Piece?). The collection consists of digital art pieces as well as works prepared using acrylic and mixed techniques. A video art presentation created from the artist’s works at the exhibition also garnered praise from visitors.
Saraçoğlu expresses her thoughts on the “ReBirth, Kayıp Parça Kimde?” collection as follows:
“For many years, I have tried to express my criticisms of urban transformation, climate, and environmental issues through my paintings. My main aim was to create a memory of the era I live in through art and contribute to social awareness. My own level of thinking, turning inward in my expressions in the paintings, emerged as the ‘ReBirth’ series.”
Nature progresses in a constant cycle to sustain life. This cycle encompasses many different processes, each completing the other. Nature is a cycle reflecting the interaction between living beings and their environment. This cycle maintains the balance of nature, with each process complementing the other. Therefore, it is crucial not to harm the cycle of nature and to protect it because when the balance of nature is disrupted, life is adversely affected. Sustaining the cycle of nature and preserving it is everyone’s responsibility.
However, the damage caused by humans exceeds the tolerance of nature by far! I started to contemplate this with the question “ReBirth-Kayıp Parça Kimde?” (ReBirth-Who Holds the Missing Piece?). In my paintings, I attempt to depict the chaos caused by humans’ reckless desire to dominate every aspect from the past to the present. And we should be aware of the harm we inflict on the natural cycle. Even though it may seem like the cycle is being completed, we have disrupted the chain; we have either replaced parts with others or nature has continued its motion with a mutated piece. In short, we have altered the natural rhythm of the process. Now, we are starting to confront what we have lost as a result of our actions for development and striving to regain it. Rapid implementation of our awareness is necessary for a livable world.”
