The Pera Museum Learning Programs designed workshops for adults inspired by the exhibition “Isabel Muñoz: A New Story.” The program titled “Origin of Creativity: Workshops for Adults” includes both in-person and online workshops, bringing together various disciplines such as dance, storytelling, embroidery, and the use of artificial intelligence in art.
The Suna and Inan Kıraç Foundation Pera Museum Learning Programs organize workshops for adults within the scope of the exhibition “Isabel Muñoz: A New Story – Photographs from Göbeklitepe and its Surroundings.” The Pera Adult workshops, open to participants aged 18 and above, transform the inspirations evoked in their minds by the enigmatic artifacts of human history, as photographed by the storyteller Isabel Muñoz, into artistic creations. The program, titled “Origin of Creativity: Workshops for Adults,” consisting of in-person and online workshops, will run from July 28th to September 1st.
Designs shaped by social awareness
In collaboration with the Human Resources Development Foundation (İKGV), the free “Power Flower” workshop brings together immigrant and local women around the unifying power of art. Participants, guided by a docent, explore the impressive photographs of ancient artifacts from human history, ranging from the past to the present, exhibited in the “Isabel Muñoz: A New Story” exhibition. After the tour, the workshop leader İris Bilen engages in a conversation with the participants about culture and coexistence, and together they design “power flower” templates to visualize the relationship between social identity and strength.
Ancient symbols revived on fabric
In the “From Earth to Hoop: Decorative Embroidery” workshop led by Melike Güven, participants embroider symbolic figures from Göbeklitepe and its surroundings onto fabrics after a guided tour of the exhibition. Participants get to experience different embroidery techniques, such as punch embroidery, felting, appliqué with leather pieces, wood beadwork, and the Gördes knot. They also have the opportunity to learn about the meanings and uses of animal symbols depicted in the photographs.
Videos that take you on a journey through time
The “Creating Videos with Artificial Intelligence” workshop invites art enthusiasts to blend the past with the present. The workshop draws inspiration from the works that Isabel Muñoz produced for the Pera Museum exhibition using technology. Led by Burak Doğaroğlu, the online workshop enables participants to gain practical knowledge about combining the prehistoric world with technology through various interfaces and how to give directives to artificial intelligence.
The exhibition hall comes to life!
The “Inspired by the Past: Dance” workshop, led by Dilara Çekin and Berrin Yılmaz, invites everyone interested in dance to join in at the Pera Museum. Participants start by photographing dancers from various styles, such as tango, flamenco, and oriental, and then claim to “dance through photographs,” inspired by Isabel Muñoz’s works in the exhibition. They later perform duo and solo works in the exhibition hall, surrounded by captivating photographs of the standing stones in Göbeklitepe.
Create your own tale from family heritage stories
Inspired by Isabel Muñoz’s belief in the power of photographs to tell “untold stories,” the “Seeds of a Story: Family Stories” workshop is led by Ekin Can Göksoy and Mete Özel. Participants, contemplating the dynamics of writing and orally telling a story based on family tales, fairy tales, or lived memories, are invited to become the narrators of their stories to keep their created stories alive and preserve their original function.
Tickets for paid workshops can be obtained from www.biletix.com. PERAcard FAMILY members receive a special 50% discount. Participants in the online workshop via Zoom Meeting must have Discord accounts.
