Juliet’s Journey begins in Iceland. Juliet’s Journey, a short film written and directed by Fadik Sevin Atasoy, has its world premiere in Iceland on January 13.
Jülyet’s Journey, a short film written and directed by international award-winning actress Fadik Sevin Atasoy, was selected for the Reykjavik Women’s Film Festival.
The film will meet with international audiences and foreign press on January 13 as a special selection at the RVK International Film Festival, which features films by women directors.
The protagonist of the movie, Juliet, is a handmade doll. Although it creates a lively effect at first glance, she is a doll that has no language and cannot tell her troubles. Juliet, who has to make do with what is given to her, is a fragile metaphor of women who have been hit both mentally and physically.
Advocating that our country’s cinema should have a language for women’s stories, Fadik Sevin Atasoy tells a modern fairy tale through a doll in Juliet’s Journey. Fadik Sevin Atasoy said, “As a woman producer of this film, of which I am the writer and director, I believe that my pen bears responsibility. Unfortunately, I am also familiar with Juliet’s struggle. This is exactly why I hugged my pen and sincerely tied it to Juliet’s fate to my own.”
The Turkey-USA co-production film was shot in partnership with Red Case Ent and Sky Films. Cüneyt Mete and Aylin Akpınar star in the movie. The other main role is played by the theater actor İskender Altın. The cinematographer of the film is Deniz Eyüpoğlu, Turkey’s first female cinematographer. Their music bears the signature of Saki Çimen.
The shooting of the film took place in 2022 in crowded places of Istanbul such as Istiklal Street and Galata Bridge. The protagonist of the movie, the doll, was designed and handmade by a Far Eastern artist.
