The Turkish Metal Processing Industry will come together at the EMO Hannover Fair on September 18th.
EMO Hannover, the world’s leading trade fair for production technology, will be held in Hannover, Germany, from September 18th to 23rd, 2023. The fair, where the latest international production technologies will be showcased, will also shed light on developments in the industry. As one of the approximately 40 countries to be visited by the EMO World Tour in the first half of 2023, Turkey organized a press conference on June 15th, 2023. Dr. Wilfried Schäfer, Managing Director of EMO Hannover’s organizer and the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW), stated during the EMO press conference held in Istanbul, “We believe that this important fair can make a significant contribution to the progress of the industry in Turkey.”
While the Turkish economy positions itself as one of the world’s top 20 economies, according to Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), Turkish companies are now focusing on the future and planning new projects. Germany, being among the largest foreign investors, has significant projects in the areas of transportation infrastructure, energy supply, and automotive industry. Oxford Economics, the research partner of VDW, expects key customer sectors to invest 3 billion euros in machine tools in Turkey this year. The majority of this investment is planned for the automotive industry.
Annika Klar, General Manager of Hannover Fairs Turkey, stated that Hannover Fairs Turkey has been an important part of the international fair market in Turkey for 27 years and supports Turkish companies participating in fairs worldwide. She said, “Turkey’s prominent companies have been participating in EMO Hannover for years. As Turkey’s industry and production grow day by day, manufacturers strive to increase their share in the international market by participating in the world’s leading fairs. Nearly 60 Turkish companies are participating in EMO Hannover this year, and the fair makes a significant contribution to the export growth of the Turkish machine tool industry.” Emphasizing the long-standing good relations between Turkey and Germany, Annika Klar stated, “With the impact of these relations, EMO Hannover plays an important role in the investment decisions of Turkish machine tool manufacturers for the future and the steps they will take. During the fair, manufacturers from Turkey will meet new markets and sign new business agreements. Of course, contributing to such productivity makes us very happy.”
Schäfer, emphasizing the importance of production technology for the realization of industrial projects, said, “At EMO Hannover, government and investment promotion agency officials can gain information about which technologies can be used to implement planned projects. In EMO Hannover 2019, 120,000 buyers from 149 countries visited the fair. 51% of them came from outside Germany to make investment decisions based on up-to-date and the latest information. After Italy and China, Turkey represented the third largest group of foreign visitors, with nearly 3,000 buyers attending the 2019 event.”
Production technology offers solutions for the transformation of the industry.
Production technology stands out as the provider and driving force of technical progress in industrial production, while also creating solutions for challenges on the customer side, such as changing demands, faster product development, and more flexible manufacturing. Schäfer emphasizes the innovation-focused nature of EMO Hannover, stating, “Industries must manufacture under changing conditions. Therefore, the motto of our fair is ‘Innovation in Production.’ This motto both calls upon customers to invest in new technologies and motivates manufacturers to showcase their latest innovations and solutions.”
Future-oriented insights address the current challenges faced by the industry.
EMO Hannover 2023 focuses on trends such as the Future of Connectivity, Industry 4.0, the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT), digital business models, predictive maintenance, machine learning, connectivity, interoperability, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality applications, and aims to become a new platform for the Internet of Things in Production. Schäfer says, “In doing so, we aim to bring together all aspects of the Digital Factory.” At EMO Hannover 2023, the live demonstration of how various manufacturers and systems work from the shop floor to the IT structure is planned, along with presentations on how production can be optimized with data. Hakan Aydoğdu, the General Manager of Tezmaksan A.Ş., stated during the EMO press conference, “Thanks to the participants who prioritize showcasing their innovation cycles at this fair, EMO Hannover will provide an opportunity to closely follow new developments and trends. The Future of Sustainability in Production area at the fair addresses the integration of sustainability into investment planning. Schäfer states, “At the fair, solutions, concepts, and preventive approaches will be presented for resource-saving and climate-neutral production and factory planning, circular economy in production, creating circular value, energy-efficient production, sustainable supply chains, and safe workplace design. In addition to numerous individual participants offering solutions in this field, the Future of Sustainability in Production area will focus more closely on production and link scientific approaches with practical applications.”
EMO Hannover 2023 offers a wide variety of suppliers for Turkish customers.
The consumption of machine tools in Turkey, which is an indicator of the country’s industrial production growth, was determined to be 1.5 billion euros in 2021, while production remained at half of that consumption figure, at 770 million euros. While a significant portion of production in Turkey is exported, many machines continue to be imported. Turkey continues to increase its manufacturing capacity and sustain its growth in the sector. With 58 companies participating from Turkey, EMO Hannover expects to host more than 1,100 participants from Taiwan, China, Germany, Japan, Italy, and 43 other countries, in addition to individual participants.
