Ceramic Artist Elif Saltık’s personal exhibition titled ‘Haki’ will take place between 04 February – 22 February 2023 at Gallery Diani. “When you look at a cup, a bowl, a board or a statue, it should make you smile, maybe make you think,” says Elif Saltık. That is why he states that the works he produces are what he tells the audience and that he wants them to be heard. He adds real pieces from nature as accompaniments to his works. In this way, he underlines that his stories are further articulated and made understandable.
Elif Saltık said, “It’s as if I wrote a play that was watched on a theater stage and I wanted the audience to wait for the next scene with curiosity. Yes, I was excited first, and a lot. ‘My journey with ceramics begins to take shape the moment I pick up the mud. Mud has limits and I love pushing these limits so much that I suddenly find myself in a story. I am very excited to work with different textures and to tell little stories with these textures. My main point of departure is Nature. According to me, my works consist of forms, colors and textures that we cannot look at and see, and when I combine what I can partially capture with human stories, it’s like I’m carving a fantastic world on the mud. Especially wood and soil trigger my creativity in terms of texture, form and structure. By combining the nature theme with human figures, I integrate all my emotions with terracotta and present it to the audience.’
We are waiting for you to dream while watching the works of artist Elif Saltık, in which she presents her experiences and feelings to the audience with a fairy-tale-like narrative, as if they were on a theater stage.
