Held in cooperation with IDC and Microsoft at Raffles Hotel, the ‘Cyber Security: Internal Risk and Privacy’ event brought together the managers responsible for security of companies that use Microsoft’s business and security solutions, as well as Microsoft Turkey and IDC. Within the scope of the event, which focused on the increase in intra-organizational cyber threats, many issues such as risk factors, security solutions and regulations were evaluated.
Organized in cooperation with Microsoft Turkey and IDC, the “Cyber Security: Internal Risk and Privacy” event was held at Raffles Hotel. Elif Acar Özgüner, Executive Vice President of Microsoft Turkey Corporate Solutions Sales and Director of the Technology Experience Center, who made the opening speech, said that as Microsoft, they have platforms that monitor trillions of signals a day, and they have learned a lot thanks to this. Özgüner said, “We block 32 billion e-mail threats annually. We employ over 8500 cyber security experts globally. We actively monitor over 140 threat groups. In addition to these, we follow over 40 state-sponsored threat actors, which we call nation states. These follow-ups make a great contribution to our rapid product development.” Elif Acar Özgüner also mentioned that with the hybrid work, more and more devices have started to work and the managed structures have become more complex. In this direction, he emphasized that in-house cyber risks have increased by 44% in 2022.
Increasing number of intra-organizational cyber threats
Yeşim Vehicle Öztürk, Research Manager for IDC Security Market, pointed out that the number of devices used in the world and the data produced are increasing day by day and stated that the critical risk factors and compliance problems that companies need to manage have increased in parallel. Öztürk stated that in their research, phishing attacks and internal attacks came to the fore as the two biggest cyber threats faced by organizations in Turkey.
The episode titled ‘Spy Hunt with Insider Risk Management’ started with the presentation of Microsoft Turkey Security Technical Specialist Berkay Meşe. After talking about the types of threats coming from within the organization, Meşe talked about the precautions to be taken against the risks that occur inside the organization with the Insider Risk Management program. Microsoft Turkey Compliance Technical Specialist Pınar Sarmısak Çatalkaya gave a demo presentation and showed practically how in-house protective policies are created. Çatalkaya also touched on the methods by which data theft is followed in his demo.
In the “Strategies Against Internal Risks and Privacy” panel held with the participation of Information Security directors of brands using Microsoft’s business and security solutions, the importance of technological infrastructure for security; Topics such as the prevention and correct categorization of spam, monitoring of data leaks and optimum compliance with security regulations were discussed. The ‘Cyber Security: Internal Risk and Privacy’ event ended with the lunch given after the panel.
Today, it has become a necessity for organizations to create security strategies not only against cyber attacks from external sources, but also against internal threats. According to the Security Research conducted by IDC Turkey in January 2023, 41% of companies share that they encountered internal threats in the past year. In addition to internal risks, privacy and regulatory compliance continue to be among the top security issues that organizations prioritize.
