Yeni İnsan Yayınevi is adding Zümre Gizem Yılmaz‘s book titled “Cosmic Choreography: The Elemental Dance of Bodies” to the Ecology Library Series.
Today, in the Anthropocene era we are in, we are faced with the harsh impacts of the climate crisis, including fires, floods, and most importantly, a global pandemic. We can say that the root of anthropogenic climate change lies in the contradiction between cultural narratives and the four fundamental elements of nature. Our attempts to control and dominate the elements of air, water, earth, and fire, which are integral parts of nature, through a human-centered perspective and ecophobic tendencies, contribute another brick to the global climate crisis and exacerbate it further. This book aims to make this situation more visible by demonstrating the ancient story of the elements and how this story forms a cosmic choreography.

In this cosmic story, humans are merely narrators like many other actors. In this context, the central and singular role of humans is taken away. The journey of the elements is presented through examples from both Western philosophy and Anatolian philosophy in light of the ecocriticism of the elements.
The book also touches upon the place of new materialisms and posthumanism movements in pre-Enlightenment ancient knowledge.
“Cosmic Choreography: The Elemental Dance of Bodies” provides clues about the chaotic yet harmonious dance of the elements with all bodies, including the human body, while explaining the related concepts and theories. To demonstrate how the elements can coexist with dualities and reflect a miniature version of the universe, you can read about the constructive and destructive aspects of each element from the pen of Z. Gizem Yılmaz.
