Mayor Hilmi Bilgin published a commemoration message on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of the famous folk poet Âşık Veysel Şatıroğlu, raised by Sivas.
In the message of President Bilgin; “The 50th death anniversary of Âşık Veysel, a world poet who came out of Sivas to shout out peace and love to all humanity… The great master passed away on March 21, 1973, exactly half a century ago.
Âşık Veysel; he painted unity and togetherness, nature and human, life and death, reality and images with all their simplicity, almost with his instrument, he saw with his mind and sang with his heart. Although he was not educated in any school, the mastery of the language he used in his poems, the ease and delicacy of his utterance arouses admiration.
Our esteemed poet, who has established a throne in our hearts by expressing all the beauties of our nation in his poems, has been a cure for wounded hearts with his works “Ala Eyed Benli Dilber”, “I’m on a Long and Thin Road”, “Friends Remember Me” and “Black Earth”.
The year 2023, the 50th anniversary of the death of Âşık Veysel, who left great traces in our society with his exemplary stance and respectable personality, has been included in the commemoration and celebration anniversaries by UNESCO. With the circular issued by the Presidency, it was decided to celebrate 2023 as the “Year of Âşık Veysel”.
In this respect, many programs have been carried out in various parts of our country and especially in Sivas, the hometown of the great master, with the support of our institutions and non-governmental organizations, especially our Municipality and Governorship. From now on, we will continue to commemorate our great poet and to pass on the cultural heritage he left behind from generation to generation.
With these feelings and thoughts, I once again commemorate our master poet Âşık Veysel with mercy, gratitude and respect on the anniversary of his death.” made statements.
