Energy Experts on Energy Transition and Decarbonization Special Meeting from Dubai to Istanbul Conrad Bosphorus, with Energy Expert Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu and GE Vernova Middle East Africa Decarbonization Leader Yasin Kasırga at Chi Ci Talks.
With approximately 55,000 wind turbines and 7,000 gas turbines, GE (General Electric) Vernova’s technology base contributes to generating about 25% of the world’s electricity, making it a giant energy company. GE Vernova, a key player in global energy transition and responsible for a quarter of the world’s electricity, is represented by Yasin Kasırga, Middle East and Africa Decarbonization Leader (Dubai, UAE), who joined Energy Expert, Strategist, and Judicial Expert Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu at Chi Ci Talks in Istanbul.

Access to electricity is a fundamental right for sustainable development. As the energy sector decarbonizes, it is imperative to increase access to secure, affordable, and sustainable electricity. Decarbonization, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change, is essential in today’s world.
Energy Contracts Expert, Strategist, and Judicial Expert Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu, together with GE (General Electric) Vernova’s Middle East and Africa Decarbonization Leader Yasin Kasırga, gathered at Istanbul’s Conrad Hotel Bosphorus to discuss accelerating innovations necessary for achieving a fair and inclusive clean energy transition that supports technologies and business models capable of improving the energy future of the world and the region. They explored GE Vernova’s strides in decarbonization and electrification, solutions for achieving these goals, and risk mitigation methods for innovative clean energy solutions. This meeting was held on the Chi Ci Talks Energy Talks platform, a non-profit initiative and an extension of climate and energy-related social responsibility projects.
Covering a wide range of topics, from climate agreements to carbon capture technologies, artificial intelligence to energy security measures, the duo conducted a series of discussions and interviews, which will soon appear in mainstream media. At the end of the discussions, Yorgancıoğlu published an article focusing on new generation solutions specific to clean energy, decarbonization, maritime, aviation, and IT digital transition, including carbon capture technologies and cybersecurity, which has been made available on the academic platform Academia.
After a three-day GE Vernova meeting, Kasırga returned to Dubai, while both parties agreed in principle to host a new series of programs, including live broadcasts and studio recordings, in November.
The Legacy of a Proven Centuries-Old Company’s Experience
General Electric Vernova is a company that remains true to the historical mission of General Electric, a multinational conglomerate with a long history of innovation across various industries. Founded in 1892 by Thomas Edison, the company has grown to become a leader, particularly in the energy sector. General Electric Vernova represents the company’s commitment to developing sustainable energy solutions that can help address the challenges of climate change and energy security.
In a statement to Türkiye Haber Portalı following her discussions, Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu highlighted her 30-year connection with General Electric. She recalled her time in the 1990s as an Import Manager at an energy company within the conglomerate she worked for, where she was responsible for a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model combined cycle power plant. Yorgancıoğlu explained that during this time, she was in continuous contact with GE for three years regarding the imports, from the steam and gas turbines to the relays of the power plant. She also mentioned that she still keeps the invitation letter sent to her by one of GE’s senior managers for her trip to the U.S. in her archives.
She continued: “I am talking about a 30-year history here, while GE—General Electric—has long surpassed 130 years globally. During my strategic research after COP 28, I discovered Yasin Bey, a successful, versatile, dynamic, and continuously learning young leader in the energy sector at GE. As we found common ground in our areas of expertise, many topics arose that we could discuss and reflect upon. If he continues his career journey within GE as he is now, I instinctively believe that this visionary leader, Yasin Kasırga, will rise even higher from his already strong position within GE in the future. I would like to once again thank him and all of you here.”
This statement was made by Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu during her interview with Türkiye Haber Portalı, reflecting on her past collaboration with GE and her discovery of Yasin Kasırga’s leadership during her post-COP 28 research.
