Director Burak Çevik’s film “Forgetting Ways”, which will make its world premiere at the 73rd Berlin Film Festival in the coming days, will have its North American premiere at the Doc Fortnight selection of MoMA, one of the world’s most important modern art museums, to meet New York moviegoers.
Doc Fortnight, which creates a selection of non-fiction films every year, presents a selection of the most up-to-date, inspiring and exciting works from all over the world in its 22nd edition.

Çevik’s new film “Forgetting Ways” is among the 15 feature films and 8 short films of the festival, which will be held between February 22 and March 7. Çevik was previously invited to the New Directors / New Films selection, which was held in collaboration with MoMA and Lincoln Center, with the movie “Aidiyet” in 2019.

This year’s selection highlights the experience of ordinary people in documentary form, witnessing social change and events that change history, supporting new and nuanced perspectives that enrich our understanding of the world far beyond headlines.

Doc Fortnight also brings together artists and directors who explore the politics of sound, the inner workings of memory, the untold historical facts that archives can tell, and what is at stake in the documentary’s core premise, with innovative and experimental approaches to non-fiction.

“Forgetting Ways”, written by the director Burak Çevik with the lead roles Nesrin Uçarlar and Erdem Şenocak, is about a couple who broke up 14 years ago. The film presents an experience of how history is layered and rewritten over and over again through the couple, who reunited years later, unable to remember how they broke up.

Who is Burak Cevik?

Burak Çevik studied Cinema-Television at Istanbul Bilgi University. The films Tuzdan Kaide (2018), Belonging (2019) and Forms of Forgetting (2023), which he directed and produced, had their world premieres at the Berlin Film Festival. His films and video works have been screened at prestigious festivals and museums, notably MoMa, Lincoln Center, Locarno Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, FID Marseille and New York Film Festival.
